I wouldn’t go if you already have doubts about being able to physically handle the job.

1. Do you get paid for training?
2. What happens if you don't pass the training? |

I'd recommend against going until you really research what the job entails. I do know that is a VERY tough job. There is a reason it pays well.

Yeah, have your friend get you in contact with a manager so you can get all the requirements as far as hours/week, specifics on what you'll be doing, weight you'll be lifting, etc. I wouldn't count solely on your friend to give you the whole story.

I assume you’re talking about operating a drilling rig?
It’s hard work man. But like you point out the pay is good. They’ve drilled some wells on my landlords (naturally not mine) land and I saw the process and talked to some of the guys. Some of them are pretty unsavory, but most of them are decent humans trying to make a living. The work is hard and the shifts are long. But it looks like the work is doable. It is dangerous though. There is a mountain of horsepower doing a massive amount of work. And if any of the equipment falls on you you’re done. All the pipe and rigging is really heavy. So understand the risk. I assume CP is Cerebral Paulsey? I don’t know much about it. The work isn’t a whole lot of fine motor stuff. Pretty much just running rigging. |

I think you already touched on it but having CP does limit the success you'll have with jobs that are physically demanding. This is a very demanding job and not something you can just hope to get by doing day in and day out. The money sounds good but I'd think otherwise, Nut.

Nut,
I don't know how much your CP affects your nobility, but it's certainly something to consider. Realistically I don't think it's going to be a good option for you, bud. |

If you insist on trying though, get in touch with a manager and tell them you have CP. He should be able to help determine if you'd be ok to do the work.
Best of luck, friend. |

Nut, what is your current occupation and what would you like your occupation to be in the future? If this oil roughneck opportunity isn’t a springboard to get where you really want to be as far as a job/career, then I wouldn’t do it. Always make decisions with an eye to the future. Life is a game of chess, not checkers.

p.s. I like to do a writing or radio gig. since I have exp. working in new media
