Did Andy and Mahomes solve the riddle of Bill's defense?

We know he's done it before.

Last season they ****ed us up for an entire half in both games before we boatraced them.

This time Andy seemed to figure out how to use everyone on the offense effectively and kept the Patriots guessing. The offense moved a lot more consistently.

The second half was kind of a mess...BUT...Andy clearly went a bit conservative.

I felt like he definitely left some stuff in his bag of tricks, and if Kelce doesn't fumble, we probably put another 6 up. Not to mention Patrick's hand.

So the question is...do we feel confident that adding Hardman and Mahomes progression has slayed this beast?

I feel pretty good.

He wasn't wrong, though. The Patriots were trying to adjust to our gameplan and did so as well as they could. With Edelman getting bracketed on the outside, it left the middle of the field wide open.

They just don't have the horses anymore to exploit our 'weakness'. In another year, when the Pats still had Gronk or another credible WR threat, that could have been the beginning of the end for us.

At this point I think it’s reasonable to measure the Chiefs on their ability to succeed in the playoffs, and hopefully win a SB sometime soon. And if our offense only puts up 23 but we win, we’ve definitely solved something and I’ll take it.

The question of "did Andy and Mahomes finally solve the riddle of the Patriots' DEFENSE?" in short, is unequivocally "YES." No question.

In the 2nd quarter, the Chiefs put up 17 points, and scored a total of 20 points IN THE FIRST HALF.

In the previous two meetings, the Chiefs only put up 9 points total in the first halves of both games.

If Mahomes hadn't hurt his hand in the first half, there was nothing stopping them from scoring at least two more TDs, and maybe a lot more than that.

At least twice, as some have already noted, Hill was wide open down field, directly in front of Pat; a healthy Mahomes easily slings those passes for scores. And there were at least two other receivers wide open downfield in the second half that would've resulted in either scores or huge chunks of yardage.

But his hand apparently was really bothering him, because as I recall, he only took one deep shot in the second half, relatively early in the 3rd quarter; after that he threw underneath exclusively and Andy dialed up a lot of runs. In other words, whatever game plan they originally had for the second half went out the window when Mahomes showed that he couldn't/wouldn't throw deep. Andy had to cobble something together on the spot.

So, as I've been saying for weeks now, the Patriots defense isn't as good as their record indicated prior to the game. And Andy and Mahomes had them pretty much dead to rights in the first half before the injury to Pat's hand. Pat struggled a bit in the first quarter, IIRC, but after that he was rolling.

You know how we know that?

Because our scoring drives in the 2nd Q went like this:

7 plays, 58 yards, TD.

7 plays 45 yards TD.

10 plays 74 yards FG.

Andy and Pat owned that defense.

The one silver lining about Pat's setback with his hand is that a big chunk of the gameplan can still be used in the playoffs because it probably never saw the light of day, if the Chiefs run into the Pats in Jan.

The 2nd half failure was just andy calling a lousy game. Pat hurt his hand before all of the scoring in the 2nd quarter. so if pat could do it then with the hurt hand, i don't see why he couldn't do it in the 2nd half. Andy just sucked in the 2nd half. Either that, or pat got tired of taking the brutal hits necessary to make those plays in the 1st half, which is also on Andy for not taking Reiter/Wylie out.

Second half makes me say no. But if Kelce dont fumble Pats never get back in it. Even a FG there would have been big.

I think AR had it figured out the past 3 Cheatriot games. BS penalties and mental errors on the part of KC is what kept them from winning. The Cheaters had more go their way than not this last game and Chiefs pulled thru just fine. Cheaters can cry all they want about the void TD. Calls still are weighing in their favor.

It will be even better if Goodell has someone go thru BB's office and confiscates his video hard drives.
