Mansionmania Tournament: Round 1, Heat 18

Mansionmania continues. I'm going to show you the most expensive homes in every state and a few territories, with a few extras thrown in from the largest states to get the tourney up to 64. It'll be a single-elimination tournament.

You will choose among each pair of houses with the following assumptions:
  • The purchase price for you is $0.
  • All maintenance, utilities, property taxes, HOA fees, and cleaning is included.
  • You must live in the home for the rest of your life.
  • You can't travel more than 100 miles from home (via google maps drive time) other than 1 two-week vacation each year.
  • You get $250,000 per year as a living allowance
  • You get an additional living allowance at the cheaper home, which will be valued at 1% of any cost difference annually. I will note this amount in the poll.
  • You get the furnishings. If unfurnished, you get an allowance that will give you mid-grade furniture in every room.
  • You get any vehicles in the garage. But only the garage - nothing parked outside.

I encourage you to click on the maps in the listings to see the general location and neighborhood.

Also, I will only enter contestants if they have a sufficient number of photos to judge, as determined by me.

Your entries in this heat are:

As a south dakota resident, Sioux Falls ****ing sucks. That house is boring as shit as well, can't believe that's the most expensive one on the market. Would think I'd get more money each month to spend there too 300k isn't much compared to what I was thinking.

I would point out that the SD house is very nearly in Iowa, which has occasionally been mistaken for Heaven.

South Carolina, no contest.

Yup. Decent weather all year - low month is highs in the 50's. Charleston close enough. On the beach. Golf all around.

SC, but not really a big fan of either house. Somehow those kitchens are really ****ing small. Like mine is bigger.

If I'm going to live in a multimillion dollar home, the kitchen, where we spend a lot of time better be better than that.

Yeah, I've noticed that with a few mansions so far.... 20 bedrooms, 20k square feet, but the kitchen is an afterthought.

I hadn't thought about it that much though I always look at the kitchens. But I'll see home shows that have enormous fancy kitchens and I'm not sure we've seen a total knockout kitchen yet in this tournament. Maybe the people buying the expensive houses have personal chefs and don't care. But someone living in a house under $10 million isn't going to have a personal chef.

Yeah, I'm not even a huge cook or anything and can think of several great things for a fancy kitchen.... hell, my little house in KC even had a built in wine/beer rack thing that was nice. I'd have a nice gas stove top and separate griddle setup, built in cutting boards, a brick oven for pizza making and burning the bodies, a focus on easily accessing pots/pans/etc. with an open design for grabbing spices and what not.

And from my experience, a lot of get togethers end up in the kitchen... maybe not as big of a deal in a mansion where they could end up in the hot tub or pool or one of the 40 other rooms, but I'd want some space as well.

can't resist those quaint boardwalks to the beach. South Carolina.

Everything about the South Dakota House looks like it's from 1996. The home, the decorations, and the photography.
