Some FFL research

I'd like to post a series of polls which seek to list the best players at the FFL positions. I recently purchased the NFL.com Fantasy Football Preview, and I'll probably buy many of the other popular brands as well. The number 1 key to a great season is a great draft.

So I'd like to start with QB's. I'm in a 12 team league so i'll list the top 24 QB's. I'd like to know who, in your opinion which 5 QB's will have the best FANTASY season. Feel free to pick your sleepers. They are listed in alphabetical order.

Hopefully then all of us here who play Fantasy Football can take this informal survey into consideration when setting up our draft strategies.

Mangina and Carson Palmer. I know that Palmer is coming off of a knee injury, but it looks like he's going to play in the first game of the year, and it's not exactly like he was Daunte Culpepper before the injury. (I think Bulger would be a solid pick in the middle rounds, I foresee him throwing fewer picks and having more RZ opportunities this year)

Good analysis. I like Palmer as well, though the knee scares me a bit. A guy I like a lot is Delhomme, and I think you can get him in later rounds.

This is a make or break FFL year for me. I won my league the last two years, so now I'm in a Yahoo Champions League. If I get that shit on lockdown there will be great rejoicing and sacrificing of live chickens in the casa de Jenkins.

Funny you mention Delhomme, as I almost did as well. There are certain QBs I'd want to stay away from too, like Culpepper, the Egg starting for the Jets, Losman, McNair, Roethlisberger (brokeass face who knows), Charlie Frye, Warner (too fragile, maybe a good stopgap), Alex Smith, Aaron Brooks, Brees (shoulder scares me), Vick (a backup, not a frontline guy for fantasy purposes), Chris Simms, Carr, Brunell, Rivers, Grossman, Detroit's QB, Favre, and Plummer.

Who knows with Bledsoe., big boom/bust potential, same with McNabb, since he'll probably put up his pre-TO numbers which were marginal.

I like Bulger as a Sleeper and Matt Schaub if Vick gets his neck snapt.

Hasselbeck, Delhomme, Green, Little Brother, Brady, (dropoff from last year though) will all be solid choices who you can win with

Palmer and Mangina are the elites.

I guess I'm the only one who's voted on the poll thus far. I think McNabb is going to have a huge comeback year and the Eagles will rule the roost in the NFC East again.

I think they'll have a good year, but I think he's going to have a big problem throwing TD passes in bunches as there is no one to really go to (can you really count on a RB to make that big of a difference in a QBs passing numbers...I think not).

You may be right. I thought LJ Smith would have a much bigger year last year and Westbrook needs to step up. But, Andy Reid LOVES to pass, even to a fault sometimes.

I won my fantasy league last year too. Probably the highlight of my year. My key was my draft. I got great quality from later rounds (Santana Moss, Bears D, Shayne Graham, Houshmandzadeh) plus Tiki Barber and Edge. I also picked up Brunell early enough for him to make a huge difference and I was blessed with NO major injuries. I'm looking to do the same thing with my draft this year.

I agree with most of your QB breakdown, but I was actually thinking of taking Kitna in later rounds. I think Martz can get him some good numbers, and he's performed well when he was the starter for the Bengals. I do really like Delhomee, Hasselbeck, and Brady as well as the obvious Peyton Manning. It's a toss up for be between Palmer and Green. I think the Bengals as a team will come back down to earth next year. They'll have a Chief like season and finish somewhere around .500. I don't see Green getting the same type of numbers that he did with Saunders in the booth.

Just doing some quick mental calculations, McNabb averaged about 210 yards per game the three years before TO showed up. He scored 23 TDs a year on average (rushing and passing), and had 13 Turnovers per year. Let's give him one fantasy point a game for rushing yardage too (if you go by yahoo calculations) Those are alright numbers, but you can do a lot better with some of the other QBs (but that's just my opinion).

That would average out to about 12 fantasy points per game, which isn't bad, but it isn't great, and he does have a history of injury to an extent (broken leg, sports hernia).

I hate to break it to many of the people on here but Trent Green will not have close to the success he had during AS and DV's tenure here. Not only because our defense will (hopefully) be able to stop people in which we will run the ball MUCH more, but Im not too sure how Solari will do with the passing game in general.

That's why I didn't put green in my top 5, but I do think he'll improve on last year's modest TD numbers. Even if Cincy drops down to .500 I think their offense will still be robust, which in my mind won't really be all that much of a detriment to Palmer's numbers. Kitna *could* be a good choice, and I know that Martz is very QB friendly, but living near Detroit I have a hard time believing that the fans out here won't start to turn on Kitna should he run into trouble. But here is the real problem--they have no receivers--Rogers is playing with the third team, Mike Williams got sent home from camp for acting like a dick, and Roy Williams "plays when he wants to play". Their WR core have great credentials but really lack in production and heart.

Hadn't heard that yet about their receivers. This is why we scout early!

Top of the QB list is cloudy right now... the two big question marks are Culpepper and Palmer. If healthy, then yeah - they can be top 5, but if they miss a handful of games, it's not likely.

I think Delhomme is going to have a huge season. I listed Delhomme, Peyton, Hasselbeck, Bulger and Green for right now. Green has a huge asterik on him, he's closely followed by the likes of Tom Brady. But, since I won't put guys with big injury concerns in my top 5 right now... I slipped him ahead of Brady.

It's June and that top 5 for me will change based on the injury updates of Culpepper, Brees and Palmer. I'm not sold on young Eli just yet being elite.

Also, I think Bledsoe is set up for a huge season in that offense.... he could put up top 8 numbers.
