My cat died

This ****ing sucks. Was sitting outside and a neighbor told me that he saw it dead in the street on Wensday. Never thought losing a pet would be this sad.

Thats the other thing that sucks is the guy told me he saw our cat laying in the road so he stopped to look at him and pick him up but he was already ran over. So he called the city to come pick it up and he told me all this tonight when he was walking his dog

I get there and get a text message from my cousin saying I should let myself in and could I please let out the dog. So I do. And SHOOOM! Out goes the cat. I'm currently operating under the assumption that the cat is an indoor cat (Lawrence afterall) and I just ****ed up bad. So wife and I go trapsing through the back alleys of Lawrence with my ****ing flashlight chasing this cat. I was shining my flashlight in people's back yards. I'm surprised I'm not in jail. Anyway we chase this thing for like half an hour and it finally goes back in. Please note that we did nothing to get the cat back in, it decided it was time.

So I tell my cousin about it and she says it goes out all the time. No big deal

That cat is probably 10 also.
I had a roommate in Lawrence who did the same damned thing. He was babysitting his Mom's cats in our flat and one of them bolted for the door.
So I'm coming home from the bar and walking down the alley between Mass St. and New Hampshire, between 8th st. and 9th st., and I see this black cat go bolting across the alley and my roommate about 30ft behind him cussing up a storm.
He finally got tired of chasing him, but the cat was an inside cat anyway and he just came back to the door after a few minutes.

That cat was something else. I don't know how she trained him, but you could walk over to him, put your shoulder down, and he'd jump right up and wrap himself around your neck and just hang out there while you walked around.

Yeah,it sucks....that's where cats and squirrels are alike somewhat. They either know to stay away from the road when a car is near....or,go for it, Rocky running on the beach style.

I have a houseful that have seriously defeated the odds then. I have too many cats (8) and the story of how that came about is too long and has nothing to do with the subject at hand. But I have a 15 year old indoor/outdoor cat as well as two who are now 9, one that is 8 and 2 under the age of 3. The other two seldom go out but that is by their own choice.

The funny part is that we kept our cats inside all the time until we got the one who is now 14. He would streak to the door if he heard the handle jiggle when he was a kitten. After a few months of fighting him over this we gave up and let him go out. The one who is now 15 was scared to death of going outside and would sit and howl at the back door (went out the front) like he was lost and couldn't find his way back. Now the 14 year old doesn't go out very often (maybe once a month) but the older one goes out most every day.

I will say, I have a large backyard and most of them hang there a lot so that may be part of why they have been able to survive against the odds. Or maybe we just take that good of care of them.

BTW, they are all fixed. I insist on that as soon as possible after they hit 6 months or so in age.

Condolences.
I'm more of a dog person, but to each his own. Quite often I would rather talk to a pet than to a person. Not judgemental, and aren't gonna give me a speech.

My condolences man. About a year ago I went through losing a cat I'd had for seven years, and it's a very difficult thing. Take comfort in the fact he likely didn't suffer. Mine wasn't so lucky, and my final memories of that cat can still make me cry.

I guess if we didn't get some tactless animal hating prick shooting his mouth off in a mourning thread, it wouldn't be ChiefsPlanet, would it?
