If you could go back...?

I'm watching Peggy Sue Got Married, and it makes me think.

If you could go back and experience a month of your life again, what time period would you pick?

Assume that you can't change the past and that no one will know that you're the modern version. They will talk to you and treat you no different than they did in the past, and will only hear the words that you said at the time. In other words, you inhabit your own body at that time, and can observe the world around you from within it, but you can't change anything or share anything. Your body (and voice and everything) will behave just like it did then, and your modern self is just a passenger.

Going back means that you can see the environment as it was, your house, and of course the people around you. Tell me your age, the month and year you would pick, and why. Or don't. It's not really a big deal.

Man I literally can't think of any month I would like to re-experience in that fashion. I'd be cringing the entire time no matter what the month is. I have a difficult enough time listening to voice when it's recorded or seeing myself in home videos.

For me, three finalists would jump to mind.

December 20, 1980 - January 19, 1981. I was a senior in high school. We had a great time on New Year's Eve with some friends, and this particular time frame would likely let me see relatives as well as friends from that era. It would be nice to show up in January and see my old high school friends again. I think I may have had a girlfriend, too. My parents would've been in their mid to late 30s. I'm torn between this and the 1970 date - I have more legitimate memories of this era, but it would be neat to go back and see it again.

December 1970. I was seven years old, I picked December because I figure we would have visited both sides of the family so I could see my grandparents and other relatives at a young age. It'd be really cool to see my parents, too, and they would've been in their mid-20s at that point. Also, this was the Christmas where I got a football uniform and an electric football game, so it stands out as one of my favorite Christmases. Plus I'd like to see the house and furniture we had during that year.

December 1964. I was closing on two years old at this point. It would've been cool to see my parents as they were just moving out of being teenagers, and to see how they lived their daily lives. Plus, I figure we would have been visiting other relatives during that month. It'd be interesting to see my grandparents when they were in their 40s. This would be cool, and I was old enough at this point to be ambulatory, However, not having friends moves it to third. I'd sure love to see the house, though - it looked pretty cool based on the few pictures I have.

As an aside, I had no idea that Jim Carrey was in this movie.

I could pick out single days, or even a few different weeks, but no entire month stands out for me.

That's one of my goals in the question. It's not about special events, but rather seeing what your life and environment was like. Of course, there's no rule against picking a month around a particular event to get a dual benefit.

You wouldn't put up with that to see your old house? Your room? Your family as they were back on that date? I think it would be utterly amazing.

The only thing that really stands out for me is June 1992. Got laid off the month of my wedding. Nothing but free time followed by our wedding day and amazing honeymoon. The extra-curricular activities were pretty kick ass as well.

December 2006 was alright. october 2003, because of the chiefs. Really not enthusiastic about it though. Not much I want to relive, I know that sounds deposing, but yeah. Go future!

Edit: September 2010. I got married, saw some old friends, had a fun temp job, and the chiefs were 3-0 outta nowhere!

Yeah, wedding month would be a good one. I didn't include it in my case because I have pretty good memories of that era and we were all adults and so haven't changed that much since then.

August of 1988. My wife and I became a serious couple, and had our first real date on the ninth. The entire month was amazing.

July/August of 1995 and October/November of 1997. My biological children were born. The miracle of life humbled me.

January of 2000. I finally visited my father after 15+ years of no contact with him at all. We made amends and fixed our relationship. He died that March.

I have many more. Too many to choose from.

I would take the week of our honeymoon if I could not re-live the other weeks of that month along with it. At the time I was working at a job I hated with a complete ****face of a co-worker.
