What's wrong with the Bob Sutton scheme?

Set the talent level aside for a second. The scheme itself I contend is bunk. It appears to be a complete read & react defense. Sutton seems to "play not to lose" from a defensive aspect. Turnovers are what his scheme hinges on.

It just appears to be an indecisive scheme. Afraid to commit to attack the run or pass on any given play. It's like he's afraid to run blitz because it may not be a run. He's afraid to pass blitz because they may run the ball. His zone scheme does not seem to call for defenders manning up on offensive players in their zone.

I just can't get a read on what it is he is trying to do. It looks like he is trying to defend against everything all the time. It doesn't really come off that much different than the RAC 3-4.

They were passive in the secondary against the Chargers and Steelers and everybody bitched about it.

Seriously, this conversation is stupid. He's not getting fired, at least not until the season is over. It's MAHOMES TIME.

Oh I don't expect him to go anywhere until after the season unless we just go on a huge losing streak.

Amazing how much the defense looks when they aren't playing the GOAT and Hall of Famers in Big Ben and Rivers.

Tyreek Hill just BURNED Burfict in a cover 2.

They've also used a bunch of different alignments up front. Twice they've put Chris Jones a bit wide and put Speaks and Ford on the same side - once it resulted in a strip sack and the 2nd time, Cinci false started.

Yup, I love the overloads, I love the stunting up front and the man/zone they're running tight.

Looks like quite a bit of the 3-3-5 nickel, gets more speed up front.

I don't see a single problem with the Sutton scheme.

In fact, he may be one of the better DCs in the league right now.

Just to point out how that happens to other teams in the NFL as well...

True. You can use those formations more when the game is still close and not in full out prevent mode against the 5 wide passing attacks.

To your original point though, everybody should have noticed what the Patriots did to the vaunted Bears defense today. That offense is pretty freaking good.
