Does it matter? You think Brady only does sneaks to win the game? The bottom line is that the QB sneak is a highly effective play in the right situation, and even the threat of it can help other plays work. You can't just rip it out of your playbook unless it's a critical situation on the off-chance the QB gets hurt due to some freak bad luck. It's football. Football players gotta play, and if they play, they might get hurt. That's just how it is. It's not like it was a toss-option sweep to Von Miller's side when the guy has a bad ankle...

I want to make sure that chris Carter and Stephen a smith and whoever else is saying that this was a bad call because he got injured to call out drew brees or tom brady or aaron rodgers every time they sneak even if they dont get injured.

The fact that it was a fluke injury makes me feel better. It's easier to accept if there is no one to blame.

I’m assuming no one actually has presented a stat on that one. My issue with the call is that you’re guaranteeing contact to Mahomes while playing a team that you can destroy without that call. For instance, the Chiefs allowed 106 QB hits last season (an average of about 7 per game). Mahomes threw 580 passes and was also sacked 26 times last year. This means he was took contact on a little over 20% of his passing attempts. He’ll take contact 100% of the time when we sneak. He’ll take contact about 20% of the time when we throw. Obviously there will be more QBs inured on passing plays, because there are a lot more passing plays than there are QB sneaks. I get the play call. As a revisionist, it’s easy to be against it though. Unless you have a real stat that says otherwise, I don’t think it’s fair to say you’re statistically more likely to sustain an injury in one situation than the other.

Because you sound like a petulant child who is mad and just looking for someone to blame. No one is happy he got hurt and no one is to blame. It's tackle football.

The eye test tells you... I've been watching football for over 40 year. High School, College and Pro. Hundreds and hundreds of games. This is the FIRST time I can remember a QB getting hurt on a QB sneak. Could I be missing some, sure, but I don't remember any, do you?

That’s kind of my point. Saying it’s “statistically” more likely to get injured when throwing vs a sneak is kind of a BS argument if you don’t have the numbers to back it up. There will be thousands of passes thrown in the NFL every year. It goes without saying that there will be more total injuries on those plays. That doesn’t mean it’s more likely to get hurt on a passing play. The rate is what matters. No one has presented the actual stat. I agree that the eye test would tell you that the QB sneak is a safer play, but that isn’t a statistical argument.

Not agreeing with a call doesn't make me a child. Again, the only reason I disagreed is because he is already nursing an injured ankle. Not that I disagree with Mahomes running a sneak in general That will be my last post in the thread as I know it causes you distress to see people disagree. |
