think maybe it has something to do with Dallas being in the same conference? I'm trying to think of any big player trades that were traded in conference.

Someone else replied with my thought as well. I would only give up a mid round pick (I would consider our second rounder a mid round pick since we’ve been picking so late in the draft).

I don’t want to see us give up a first rounder for someone that we might lose quickly.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It's possible that they're worried about Dallas, and it makes sense. You could make an argument that Josh Gordon to New England is a big player that was traded in conference. Gordon is very talented, no doubt, but he just needs to lay off the substance issues that plagued his career.

But if Seattle rejected Dallas' 2nd rounder (which is pretty good for a guy who's 30 and is likely commanding a big contract), then I have no idea what they're asking for.

Seattle dropped the ball there for a good high pick for this guy, in my opinion.

Bills acquire WR Kelvin Benjamin in trade with Panthers.
49ers trade CB Rashard Robinson to Jets, release QB Brian Hoyer.
Dolphins trade RB Jay Ajayi to Eagles for fourth-round pick.
Patriots deal QB Jimmy Garoppolo to 49ers for 2018 second-round pick.
Seahawks get Duane Brown from Texans for picks.

All cross conference.

It's come out that Seattle didn't want to play against Earl. So the deal would always be rejected till after tonight. I wouldn't be surprised to see Earl as a cowboy this time next week.

I know, and it's possible they want to send him out of conference. But if Dallas dangled a 2nd rounder for this guy, they should have done it. Plus Seattle doesn't play Dallas every year, outside of how the NFL structure the scheduling.

See post 163. If Dallas and Seattle played in the same division, I can understand they'd refuse it, even for a 2nd rounder. But in a conference, it's not like Dallas and Seattle play each other every year, outside of how the scheduling process normally works.
