LNBS: This feels like we’re coiling to strike.

Am I just a few too many drinks in tonight, or does it seem like Veach is getting ready to take a huge swing for a stud either in the draft or trading for an elite WR or edge guy?

AJ Brown said KC tried to trade for him last offseason, so it was clearly a Tyreek thing and Veach wants an elite WR. He also knows he has a hole at DT that would be playing next to Jones and George…adding a difference maker there like a Justin Simmons or Quinnen Williams would be incredible.

I may be crazy…but I think Veach is itching to add another blue chip guy to this team.

Like…a really big swing.

Guys I can see him targeting for a trade because they become FAs next year…or their QB has a payday coming up and they can be persuaded to move a valuable piece…or a scheme change…or I’m sure some of these I’m just dreaming.

Nick Bosa
Quinnen Williams
Tristan Wirfs
Brian Burns
Justin Jefferson
Brandon Aiyuk
Montez Sweat
Jeffrey Simmons

Or maybe Veach targets some guys he wants and is willing to swing for the fences for that the other team might be willing to extract value while it’s still there like Jaylen Waddle or a Devonte Smith.

Maybe it’s not a current NFL player he’s targeting. Maybe he’s planning on making a big splash on draft night with a big trade up and that’s why the pre combine QnA was built with purely softball questions and answers.

No way 10 draft picks make this roster. He’s stacked the roster with quality starters and depth across the board. Adding quality over quantity makes a ton of sense.

Even using this years 1 and 3 and next years first to move wayyy up I bet is absolutely in play.

What way to introduce a new weapon could be better than the world champs trading up to get you in the top 10-15 picks with the draft being in KC and being able to go right to the facility and meet Mahomes, Andy, Nagy, Spags and Veach right away? Incredible to think about.

Did we have an EDGE1 on the roster that I missed last year? I think Spags is getting versatile line guys knowing we won’t be able to afford or draft a true Edge 1. We play mismatches and hope our coverage continues to improve buying some of our slow burners a chance.

Right now RT is the biggest need and has the fewest options to fill in FA in my opinion. Maybe someone like Cameron Fleming. The talent in the draft is at DE imo so I'd love to add another 1st round Edge. But I think we'll go RT. Only way I see it not happening is if the Bengals take Wright and Veach thinks there's a big drop to the next guy, which there is. Then I reckon it's DE R1, trade up for a Bergeron type R2. Wouldn't hate it but it'd be a shame to lose the 3rd.

AS A FAN of the Kansas City Chiefs since 1963, IN A PERFECT WORLD the Kansas City Chiefs would be Super bowl Champions EVERY YEAR!!! I don't care if PMII takes a breather and only throws for 3500 yards if we go 20-0. I don't care if we are the #5 offense as long as we score more points than our opponents. Winning in the NFL, not a fantasy football league, is everything.

They're vetting a lot of DEs but I do wonder if it's R2-3 now. Tranquil is our coverage LB that allows Chenal to rush more imo, and he can also add to our blitz packages. That's a great way to add flexibility.

In terms of usage, it was Frank. He was the veteran presence, do-it-all guy. I'm not talking about results, just which EDGE Spags leaned on most of the time.

Understand. We need a leader and a few more guys for this committee imo.

Question is, does that mean Frank is coming back somehow, or does Spags install someone else as that guy? I don't think would be Karlaftis, but could it be Omenihu? He doesn't have a lot of stats to look at, but we know he's capable of lining up inside/outside, defends the run . . . I mean, maybe? I haven't seen enough of him to have a strong feeling either way.

Omenihu's pressure rate demands starter status IMO, especially when he's big enough to be great against the run.

Kick him inside on passing downs and bring in Danna or a speed rusher to be named later.

Back to the Coiling to strike idea...

Trade strike; Could be Zadarius Smith. Veach was after him before, he wants out of Minny, Minny is cap strapped. This would NOT be a high draft pick, 4th or less. Savvy Vet still producing at a high level. Opens up our draft.

DeAndre Hopkins, yeah hes not the 25 year old guy but he is a TOP WR with a few good years left at a reasonable salary for a guy of his caliber. Veach HAS been looking for WRs it just hasnt worked out YET. They chased JuJu for two years knowing they would only have him for one. They have looked at OBJ, AJ Brown... Veach is NOT stupid, we all know that, he isnt going to screw the team over, BUT if he can find the right deal he WILL do it.

Some guy NO ONE is expecting, this would be Veach at his BEST. He seems to know what every teams situation is and could be trading for someone that isnt on anyones radar, this is the "Oh Shit" trade.

Dez Bryant came in for a workout. They did try to re-sign Tyreek. They even extended Sammy.

When you look at the history, it's pretty clear that they've always been looking for a veteran top-tier WR, they just haven't found the one they really want. Yet. It's just a matter of time.

Yes. You know what I'd like to see more than that, though? Drafting our own guy that Mahomes will turn into a stud himself.

No, it probably won't be a WR with the range and athletic talent of Jefferson, but how about any of the random WRs outside of the 1st round who blossomed into elite players in their own right in this era of the modern NFL? In a totally random order, just to name a few... Tyreek, Cooper Kupp, Michael Thomas, Terry McLaurin, DK Metcalf, Jordy Nelson, Amen-Ra St. Brown, Anquan Boldin, Josh Gordon (that one season in Cleveland, man...), Steve Smith Sr, Victor Cruz, and a whole bunch of other guys I'm forgetting about.

And even then, JJ himself was a late 1st round pick. I know those guys don't exactly grow on trees, but if there is some elite guy like that who slips through the cracks, we've got just as good of a shot as everybody else to identify and scout him should he happen to slip into the back half of the first round.

I get it. You just like the idea of Jefferson playing with Mahomes. That can still be a reality-- it will just have to be somebody like Jefferson instead of Jefferson himself, and we just gotta put in the legwork.

Good grief, can we get off this narrative??? He's a malcontent with a huge salary that some desperate team will overpay for, just not us. He'd probably want a new contract for even more cash. Veach can find a better fit than him if we want to build for not only 2023, but 2024-6 and beyond. As long as PMII is QB1 we'll be OK.

Doesn't feel right to me. We probably aren't throwing nearly $40M/yr at our OTs. Seems like overpaying for potential production. And it's just not necessary. Pat's not middle-aged Brady/Manning/Ryan. He can help himself get out of trouble. And we just don't run enough to make the investment in top-tier/elite OTs worth the cap space. Reliable and explosive weapons are more important at this stage of his career.
