Road Rage

Saw some crazy ****ing shit at 95th and State Line yesterday in rush hour.

Not sure what the start was, I suspect someone cut someone else off, but the first thing I saw was a fast food cup flying through the air. It came from the car (Car A) in front of me, hitting the car in the lane directly opposite (Car B).

It's a red light so everyone is stopped. Whoever threw the cup GETS OUT OF Car A and starts screaming at Car B, beating on the window. This goes on for about 30 seconds.

Then the passenger side door opens on a van in front of them. Someone yells back for the idiot who got out of Car A to put a sock in it and get back in your car so traffic can proceed.

Then the passenger side door on Car A opens, and someone else starts yelling at the van. They both walk up to the passenger in the van and start screaming at HIM.

Now the light has changed, so the van drives off. Car A's occupants walk back to Car B, one of them SPITS in the half-open window. They get back in Car A. Then the driver of Car A retrieves an item from her car, gets out again, and throws it through the window of Car B. They drive off.

I assume it was a lit cigarette or joint. Whatever it was, it was so foul it made the driver of Car B exit her car and go to the side of the road, passing in front of me. At this point I drive off, happy this happened at State Line and not Troost, where I would have been caught in a hailfire of bullets and died heroically.

Fun times in Waldo.

gas is too pricy for road rage, already creeping up towards 4 bucks a gallon again. You wanna waste your money to get places a couple minutes faster you go ahead.

Got morons in CRVs trying to race my Mustang GT at stop lights and it's like whatever you goof. You wish I was young and dumb enough to care, would see nothing but tail lights.

I moved nearly a year ago. My biggest concerns now are kids throwing water balloons at cars, getting the drip system to my landscaping dialed in and having enough sunscreen. Feels good.

That said, I still very much enjoy traveling to Chicago for a couples days every other month or so. My wife still has an office there so I use it as an excuse to fly in with her just to eat at my favorite spots then come home.

It is different though. Between corps that left and WFH downtown is creepily quiet. My old and favorite hoods, Wicker Park and Logan Square, are mostly boarded up and blighted now. Places I'd walk without a second thought a couple years ago I don't walk now. Its like the mostly gentrified areas have slipped back into the 90s. Someone above mentioned heavy crime being isolated to just the bad areas, Chicago is an outlier here as they intentionally target "better" neighborhoods because why not? Why carjack a hoopie in Englewood when you can grab Becky's Lexus in Lincoln Park.

But there's still some great places to enjoy and the food/drink scene is still world class. I never really vibed with the Loop or River North so I stay at The Robey in Wicker Park when I go back. Its got a cool boutique vibe and still gives you walkability, quick assess to the L or 20 minute Ubers anywhere.

I can't recommend much in Wrigley because I tried to avoid that area as a resident but Chicago for 2 or 3 days eating and drinking can still be fun. I'm your SME for Chicago pizza, steakhouse, ramen, hot chicken and brewery recommendations.

*EDIT: Toons is a Chiefs bar in Wrigley. Its nothing special outside of the Chiefs playing though.

I'll admit that my hatred of Chicago is pretty much pathological at this point. I hated living there, I hated working there, I hated commuting there after I moved, and I hate that it's wretched influence has pretty much ruined the entire state. Getting whacked from my job after 19 years, 11 months and two weeks was the last straw. In his book Band of Brothers, Stephen Ambrose wrote about how Dick Winters loathed the 101's commanding officer, General Taylor. During an interview Ambrose actually chided Winters for being completely unfair to Taylor. Winters replied "I don't want to be fair." That's how I feel about Chicago. Sure, there are some good things about it. Ask someone else about them.

just look at a crime map

per capita KC has more crime than a lot of big cities

Quote:
Kansas City has a violent crime rate of 1,596 violent crimes per 100,000 people, which is 417 percent higher than the national average.
19th in murders per 100K

Not true. I was ubering last night and your mom fit in the cargo area just fine. Dropped her off at Touches and gave Billay the heads up.
