Jets quarterback Geno Smith was apparently escorted off a Virgin America flight at LAX today by police after what a witness called a "verbal altercation."

The photo you see above was sent to us by a reader who witnessed the incident and says the shot came "moments before" Smith was escorted out of the airport by cops. Our tipster wasn't the only person who saw it:

We're working on getting more details, but it looks like Geno's weekend isn't off to a great start.

Update (7:11 p.m.): Our tipster fills in some details:

We were waiting for our flight at LAX to Vegas and were put on standby on Virgin American just like Geno. We were told to get seat assignment at 2:40. Apparently Geno was not on board with that. My friend walked over to discuss seat assignment and Geno was saying to airline ticket agents, "**** that, this is bullshit." "Why the **** do I have to wait until 2:40." He would not let it go. He continued to curse and be loud for about 5 minutes. Police were called. They talked for a few minutes and then 3 officers escorted him out of the terminal.

Not that I think Geno Smith is all that good. With his maturity issues he may well end up worse than Alex Smith but it will be a tough row to hoe.

It means compare rookie seasons between Alex and Geno. Not even close. If Geno doesn't progress Alex will end up being better. For a QB with as many years in the league as Alex, he has until the last year or two been very unimpressive. Geno would have to really continue to be a douche that makes no progress to not beat that track record.

Even now, anything that makes Alex a better QB than Geno comes from spending 7 (or however many NFL seasons under center). Alex reads a defense better and is more judicious in his actions but wouldn't you expect that from a QB with more than a decade worth of experience over another?

Let me help you, comparing 2 players worse seasons and saying Geno is better because it was just his first season is false logic. Its blatantly false.

Until Geno does something relevant that Alex or any other QB hasn't done he is in fact not better. Period.

I assume you are ready to say Luck is a better QB than Montana, Manning, Elway, Brady etc...as well.

Well, no, you're comparing Geno to Alex 9 years ago. An Alex Smith that started 7 games, and sure wasn't ready, that in no way means Geno is or will be better, because who knows what path Geno will take.Personally I don't expect him to turn into what Alex is doing, but that's me. This is not difficult to understand. Comparing 2 bad rookie seasons will not tell you who will be a better QB down the road.

There are so many variables that go into 1 season compared to another its practically impossible anyway.

All I can tell you is this, seeing Geno play this year and seeing his actions, body language, and demenor, I don't see a reason to be overly optomistic.
