Props to Matt Cassel

I've been a staunch critic, but he played a good game today, and led this team to a victory over one of the top teams in the league.

All I'm saying is; in the face of less than perfect supporting talent on offense, if there's one trait alone that's going to pop up first?
That would be the one I want.
And it looks like I might be getting it.
And you are starting to see why a pretty tough Boston sports fan base that had been spoiled from years of having Tom Brady, LOVED Matt Cassel by the end of last year. That is not an easy thing to do in New England. But he did it because most people saw similar intangible traits. Toughness, hard work, leadership, the ability to improve, and unafraid of 4th quarter pressure.

I was ready to see Croyle at a point in the game and then Cassel turned it around.

And he's been consistent with it, which was my original compliment. I think more people will begin to have faith in him when the techniques of the position and command of the total field tighten up a bit more on his end.
If he can address the slop, tighten up his mechanics, and develop a wide field of vision while simultaneously growing eyes in the back of his head; this team will be in great shape.
And he does need better protection to make those things happen.

In other news, Keitzman is ripping Mangino a third asshole right now.

Cassel wasn't without his struggles yesterday, but he got the job done when it counted.
Kudos to you Milkman for giving him his due.

Some of our fellow Planeteers refuse to do that.

I suppose that this has been discussed in another thread somewhere, but a question comes to mind: Was anyone here certain, when the season began, that Cassel would even be standing upright through week 11?

You know, we may have started to see him grow into that QB who can stand in the pocket in the face of pressure and deliver.

In previous games, and this goes to teh question keg asked earlier in this thread, he has had some plays where he has had a pocket to work in, even with this shitty line, and he has had a propensity to break containment before it was actually necessary, and has actually run himself into more pressure.

Yesterday, however, he stayed in the pocket and made plays.

He slid away from pressure rather than breaking containment.

He was one of the most sacked QBs in the league last year, if not the most (I can't remember), and was standing at the end of the season.

So, yeah, I think some, myself included, thought he would be still standing.

I don't believe his toughness and durability has ever been a question.

Perhaps he's been watching film of players who have the strengths he lacks, and working on improving his game.
That's another thing about him; I don't think he's going to sit back and rest on his paycheck. I think this guy goes to work just like a working man.

We'll see. There's a lot more football left to play. The best thing we could get out of this game is for the OTHER talent on the team that can actually play better than THE SACRED COWS, will continue to play.
The other thing, is that a good finish this year will help us recruit the kind of quality support staff that we so desperately need.
I don't care what Haley says about Krumrie, Carthon, and Muir or anyone else for that matter; there are better people out there, and we NEED them.
