Off-season NFL power rankings

Some people think early power rankings don't matter, but I always get lots of replies when I post them. The Patriots own the top spot and the Chiefs open at #20, which I think is fair.

Damon Huard played well last year and Brodie Croyle might have a bright future, but it's pretty clear that QB is a major issue in Kansas City right now.

Hey... how come they didn't put the Broncos in the top three this year? And how come they didn't pick them to go to the Bowl? They usually get a lot more play than that in the offseason..... I guess Denver is losing its darling status. Although they are the highest-ranked 9-7 team & the Chiefs are the lowest.

Having the Chiefs ranked 20th is amazingly generous and undeserved. Sorry UD the Raiders I guess are not read for prime time.

The Chiefs almost always start out underranked.

We then work our way into the Top Ten by week 12, then crumble.

We made the playoffs last year and have improved our biggest weakness from last year - offensive line. We've improved the defense and WR corps too. We've created a small problem at QB, but other than that, we're really not any worse off than we were last year, when we were one of the TOP 12 TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE.

20th is neither generous nor undeserved. It's just about right.

Sounds pretty close to me.

You have to expect a drop in wins when you make the kind of changes the Chiefs have this off-season.

If everything goes as planned, we'll be significantly better than that. But, rarely does "everything" go as planned.

Either way, I'm pleased with "the plan". I can handle a tough season, maybe two.

I'm guessing the Chargers were around 20 last offseason.

"Philip Rivers will take time to adjust. The Chargers will miss Drew Brees."

Good point.

We have replaced so many weak links on this team this offseason it is just ridiculous.

Like htismaqe said, we finished the season wayyyy above 20, and I've seen nothing but improvements across the board this offseason.

No kidding, Laz.

We could END up next year, anywhere from #6-7 in the League (if EVERYTHING falls into place).....to into #25-26 range...(if things DON'T go our way.)

I'm guessing at this early date: 8-8 or 9-7, AGAIN.

However, it will be a medocrity with PROMISE of a bright future....

So says MY 'crystal ball'....

Totally irrelevant, you could say that about 80% of teams.

It's an offseason power ranking... Obviously its just speculation, but that doesn't mean we cant give our opinions on it.

Chiefs could be pretty good this for no other reason than the schedule. Heck you can almost mark down 6 to 8 wins at Arrowhead in a season plus road games at Detroit, Houston, and Oakland.
