Seeing Florida Man and then something positive isn't something we are used to seeing.

I'll go ahead and ask now that everyone keep their replies respectful. That's quite an accomplishment. Bravo for the young man.
EDIT: And by that, I'm not talking about making fun of Florida. Carry on with that shit.

The incredibly unusual positive, good feeling Florida man story.
But for real, this is wildly impressive. I don't think I could do any part of a triathlon, let alone a ironman triathlon.

Pretty awesome. I'm sure his neighbors were caught having sex with animals or cutting someones genitalia off or something though, being in Florida and all.

On an unrelated note, I've volunteered for a nonprofit a few times that earned money by assisting with an Ironman race in Colorado. This is a 140 mile course - 2 swimming, 112 biking, and then finish with a marathon (all at high altitude, by the way).
One year I was assigned to a path at Mile 138 or thereabouts. The path forked and my job was to keep people from going in the wrong direction. It's a pretty easy job. You mostly just sat in the grass and pointed if someone looked confused. But they were pretty tired at this point so you had to keep an eye on them. It was really late, closing in on midnight, and these were the last people who were trying to beat the cutoff time. I'm sitting in the grass talking to some dude who was just there to watch the race. As you can imagine, the people are all pretty fit, even if they're trying to squeak across the finish line before the cutoff. And then some dude comes through, soaked in sweat, and he's probably 5-8 and 260 pounds. He wasn't a bodybuilder or anything, he was just a barrel-shaped short guy. I looked at the guy I was chatting with and he looked at me and our jaws dropped. This guy looked like he'd struggle in a 10k race, and he was at Mile 138. He had to be the best athlete on the course.
