I was under the impression that this is a stand alone 2 part prequel, and season 2 would be coming later. Is that not correct?

From what I could tell, they did the prequel because Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) got lymphoma so this bought them time for him to get better before filming season 2. However, poor bastard had a relapse so they had to recast the part of Spartacus. I believe this prequel "season" is six episodes.

Currently you can watch both episodes of season 2 on Netflix streaming, FWIW.

They're OK. Not nearly as good as the first series, in fact, probably tarnishes the series a bit. BUT it's definitely a good watch. If nothing else, for the epic titties.
