The Patriots are so desperate to stay on top they are pinning their hopes on the far-fetched idea that somehow Bill and Tom can somehow keep Gordon from hitting the pipe again, and AB happy. And Tom isn't throwing downfield much anymore. Not taking any bets on how long AB will put up with that before having another freak-out.

Brown will be on his best behavior now. He knows if he screws up with the Pats that he will have to work hard to prove himself to get another big contract. If he plays nice and keeps his mouth shut this year some team will give him another big contract next year. Brown wants to get paid again and playing for the Pats will get him one faster than playing in that shit show in Oakland.

SO the Pats offered a 1st and Pitt declined for obvious reasons, and settled for a 3rd and a 5th from Oakland. AB also said at the time he wanted to go to the Pats. AB basically starts his release process from Oakland day 1. He forced his way out with IMO NE watching closely as they had an "idea" he was going to do just that. They had the space cleared and ready. Once released he was theirs.

Oakland got played, but at least cut bait before having to pay him anything, still lost the picks though. Had they stalled thinking they could salvage the relationship they would have still ended up releasing him later on due to his refusal to participate and been out his salary as well. They pretty much had no choice as AB refused to play ball from day 1. It appears this was going to happen to whatever team traded for him not named New England.

If AB stays in line the Pats greatly improved their offense, a lot will open up just with AB on the field. I do think the NFL should look into tampering in this case, and it may not be tampering but the Pats were ready for this awfully quick. While the rest of the league would have to weigh the pros and cons to AB the Pats dove in with actual knowledge of the situation.

You can't really pin this on the pats unless their is info revealed that they conspired with brown. Yeah they had cap left but so do a lot of other teams. This is squarely on brown being a piece of shit. He should honestly be suspended for a game from the league for his conduct just o get out of a contract that ended up costing the raiders draft picks.

Assuming a contract does not include language contrary to this implied duty, California courts will normally require that each party:

Did Brown refrain from doing anything to deprive the Raiders the benefit of their side of the bargain? No. He sought out counsel for a method to get out of his contract.

Did he perform all acts which the Raiders presupposed would be considered his part of the contract?
