If KC wants Edwards, they will have to give up picks. No way around it.
Their has been some talk recently about Peterson playing games with the Jets. That he is stalling in negotiations in the hope that the relationship between Edwards and NYJ has deteriorated to the point that the Jets will fire him so that they can begin looking for a new head coach.
Of course, if the Jets fire their coach, then he can be had without compensation. BUT... Once compensation talks begin, which apparently they have, how can the Jets keep their coach? There is no way IMO that he could return to the NYJ sideline next season. So in a sense, KC has forced the divorce between the Jets and their coach. I think that even if the Jets fire Edwards and KC picks him up, Tagliabue will force KC to give up picks. Personally I think this is fair. On the other hand, however---- What has KC done wrong? The way I understand it, compensation must be negotiated BEFORE KC can interview or even talk to Edwards. The fact that the Jets were willing to bargin was a clear sign that they didn't want their coach back--in essence, he was fired. This may get ugly. |
