Misc Kentucky Unemployment Cyber Attack!

I got a letter in the mail today for a company I used to do work with, a company I ran that closed up, stating that I had filed for unemployment benefits because of Covid-19. Well this is complete b*******.

Kentucky unemployment insurance is closed down for 4 days to reboot everything.

This has been going on for a year. We've gotten claims on employees that haven't worked for us in 12 years and we've gotten claims on employees that are still working for us.

I was like, WTF, I didn't file a claim, on a company I ran that closed down!

I wasn't aware states were having issues like this.

Yeah, I've gotten at least two claims in my company, one at my house for a former tenant, and another one at my house for some name I've never heard of. It's on a scale that it's got to be a foreign attack. It's a terrible waste of government resources.

This is going on in Texas too... Have had multiple clients call because they got letters for employees still working too.

I think COVID unemployment systems were hacked along side solarwinds etc

This just happened at my wifes school district in Texas. She got a call from HR today about the same thing. What a PIA

They have your social security ID. Probably a good idea to look into next steps. It's pretty normal to try and file taxes as you as well and defraud the IRS. I'm sure if you search, you can find a list of best next steps to help protect yourself.

I think my boss ended up shutting down new credit attempts, filing a police report, etc.

It’s probably the same solar winds attacks as before. They just activated the bots.

The Chinese government got every piece of my life from background checks from wher I’d lived the last 20 years, employment history with contacts, background investigations done by the FBI etc.

Nothing is totally safe anymore.

My wife had claim here in Kansas. She filed with the state that it was invalid, and kept the email. I suggest going to all three credit bureaus and freezing your credit. It is online and is somewhat time consuming, 1/2 hour on\f your life for each, especially the first attempt. Keep the key to unlock your credit if needed. You must freeze your account separately for yourself and spouse at all three credit sites.

I'm especially happy to file my taxes early and pay the state and it went through without them informing me that I had already filed. I read that over 600 million went out to false claims. Someone dropped the ball as they must have been just approving every claim without checking.

Our Govt is off the rails faster than most realize. I hope the dollars is worth something, otherwise it will be the new toilet paper of our lives.

They got my wife too. We didn’t find out until she got a 1099 from Ohio family services in February. Government programs are normally so well administrated and error free, I don’t know what could have happened here.

Probably a good idea for everybody to check their credit reports often to watch for unusual activity.

Yes it sucks that our SS #'s are not safe anymore.

With as big as our military budget is it’d be nice if some of that could be put into our decrepit cyber security — ya know, the thing that is the most prominent threat to impact every day Americans at any time.

The military is up to speed.I worked in two major military commands for 5.5 years. One had attempted hacks 1 MILLION times a day, every day. Not fat guys sitting on their bed but serious state actors. Not a single one got through that they didn't want through.

Our military secrets are secure from hacking, at least they were they last time I was there 4 years ago. The government is the one that needs to step up their cyber security game.

Retail and private business's cyber security architecture is pathetic. I know of at least 35 out of the top 100 American business's that were hacked and or ransomware'd and not a single hack became public because no personable identifiable information was stolen so they don't have to report that theft or compromise.
