New overtime rules: Playoffs

In order for the game to end without the other team getting a chance, they have to:

Score a touchdown 6 pts
Score on a 50 yard field goal 3 points
Score on a 2 point conversion 2 points

If they don’t the other team only has to best the opposing score. If tied after first possession the full quarter must be played.

Or your shitty ****ing defense can stop them from scoring a touchdown.
There's nothing wrong with the overtime rules.

Playoff should just add a 10 minute quarter without scoring rules that stop the game?

I agree, and always felt the same, BUT...

If the league is going to stop the game from a touchdown, with no extra point, then it should be more difficult for them to do so.

Not only that, but it utilizes a couple other facets of the team to achieve victory.

Unless you wanted to go the route of a simple kickoff returned for a touchdown, game is over, otherwise play the quarter.

Until the league says play the full quarter, this is the only alternative.

same rules apply:

what if the patriots returned a kickoff for a touchdown, or they fumble and the chiefs return it for a touchdown.

its not about our defense being shitty, it's about how unfairly the nfl has treated the non coin toss winner in overtime.

I have mixed feelings on this, and have never heard anything that I 100% agree with. I do think that a full period (or maybe a 10 minute one) would be a solid option. Of course that opens up the possibility of being tied again. The other best suggestion is similar to college football, except you start at your own 25. Each team is guaranteed one possession, regardless of score, so you eliminate the coin toss factor.

you have to realize. you cannot be tied in a playoff game.

and under no circumstance do you remove special teams play from overtimes, like starting on the 25. those players on special teams got them to the playoffs too (do you want to remove the possibility the chiefs get the kickoff with tyreek returning it?) you have to keep the structure of the game in tact even in overtime.

AND FOR ****S SAKES, THESE MEN MAKE MILLIONS. THEY CAN STOMACH A LITTLE MORE FOR THE PLAYOFFS.

ITS WHAT THEY PLAY FOR

I think you're joking on the first point, so don't take me too seriously. I thought it was understood that I meant you'd be tied after another period and no one wants the game going that long. You have to end the game within an extra period if at all possible.

I'd actually argue that with the recent rule changes, they've already taken special teams (or in this case the kickoff) out of the game. I think it's pretty obvious that the kickoff return is barely a factor in games these days. I honestly think we're a few years off of eliminating it completely.

I was joking, I just don't know how to joke

Yes, they have taken special teams out, which is why I suggest they bring them back in. Aside from the kickoff, there is no greater risk of concussion/injury with a field goal attempt, and a 2 point conversion.

And I don't give a flying **** how many overtimes it takes after the teams two first possessions still tied. It doesn't matter if the quarters are 2,4,6,8,10, 15 minutes long. It all ends up the same amount of time on the field.

I think the rules are fine the way it is.

The team possessing the ball 2nd has the advantage of knowing if it's 4 down territory for them(if the opposing team kicked the field goal).

The team possessing the ball 1st has the advantage of winning with a TD but doesn't have the foresight of knowing if they should go for it on 4th down.

But with that being said, the NFL has made the game too offensive heavy. So now it could slowly become an issue in OT.

I like the way the rules are right now but they should start bringing things back in favor of the defense. Like moving the 5 yards contact rule to 10 yards contact rule or something.

I honestly thought they had fixed this problem, before the game I thought that the rules were that both teams would get a possession in the playoffs. It sucked to find out I was wrong in this fashion

I think the OT rules are ok. It stops a team from getting a couple of first downs and kicking a 60 yard bomb but allows a team to win outright if the other side can't stop them. I don't really know why but I hate the college OT rules. It just doesn't seem like football, more like a hockey shootout I guess.
