I would think if it was 50% of capacity, they wouldn't be selling any tickets to the general public, and actually taking seats from some STH. |

Yeah but if they've sold any season tickets at all, then by selling 50% of individual tickets they'll be over 50% capacity. The move seems kind of silly.

No, they wouldn't and no, they shouldn't. Why would ANY NFL player agree to play this season for $50k or less when they could suffer career ending injuries or suffer injuries that could affect them in 2021? It's not gonna happen, nor should it happen. |

He is literally the top infectious disease expert in the US, and has served many presidents. Why would I believe a guy like you that probably flunked science in high school?

I think it's far more likely that the owners and NFLPA come to an agreement in which the owners receive a larger percentage of the cap over the next 11 years of their new CBA to lesson the burden. So for example, if each team loses $100 million due to the loss of parking, ticket sales and concessions, the owners in turn keep $5 million to themselves for the next 10 years in order to recoup their 2020 losses. That way, no one takes a pay cut, the owners break even and the NFL can continue negotiating in Good Faith with the TV networks. The salary cap would continue to rise each and every year due to ticket & concession sales and new media deals, leading to peace between the NFL and NFLPA. Otherwise, we're likely looking at total chaos. |

If I'm an owner, it's all just down to whether the players are willing to all sacrifice together or if a subset are going to bear the brunt of it. It's not any different than thousands of businesses are having to do right now. |

Our school system decided to lower teacher pay if the need arises from this temporarily rather that cutting people.

The players are locked in to their contracts AND a Collectively Bargained agreement with the owners. The owners rushed this deal so that they could begin negotiating their new TV deals in good faith. The owners said, "Take it or leave it but if you leave it, it's going to be a lot worse when you come back to the table". Quote:
Most businesses don't have a Collective Bargaining Agreement in place with with employees and employers. It's not the players fault if the NFL can't fill their stadiums or don't receive an egregious amount of money from parking and concessions. That's all on the owners. The NFL set the Salary Cap, knowing that the virus might impede their ability to put fans in the stands but pushed forward, regardless. If the players don't concede, the owners aren't going to cancel the season altogether because they'll lose even more money. If they try to mess with the cap, they might as well throw the entire league in the trash because there's no way that any team could fit their players under a cap that's reduced by as much as 50%. The owners are in a pickle but they're also the same people that rushed this CBA through as quickly as possible. In the end, it'll most likely be the networks that end up covering their 2020 losses through excessive rights fees. |

Just one more thing to add: The owners have nearly limitless possibilities in terms of making back the loss of tickets, concessions and parking.
The first would be to allow teams to sell sections of their stadium seats to advertisers. The second and probably largest revenue generating idea is to allow advertising on players' jerseys. The NFL could negotiate with just about any company in the world and I'd imagine that the numbers could be astronomical. Let's say the NFL sets up a tiered structure in terms of advertising patches on the player's uniform but in addition to that, set exclusive sponsorships for the Top Ten Players in the NFL. Advertisers may want to pay more for specific players or regions, so a local grocery chain could have a deal with the Packers. There are just a million ways for the NFL to milk this and add it to their money-making machine. Even if they don't make those kinds of decisions this year, they're hopefully smart enough to know that the day is coming sooner than they expected. |
