Rod Gardner

So...while playing madden07 and screwing around online. In the 2nd I had Parker get injured and put out of the game. So for shits and grins I put in Rod Gardner thinking...well...he's basically the next highest rated guy I have, and if I take Hall out of the slot, it kind of messes up some of my plays I use for 3rd and long. And Web...can't catch anything.

But when I threw to Gardner... the ****er caught everything I threw at him. In madden and in real life he's a 1st rounder and is considered a bust.

So out of curiosity I do some homework...in real life, w/ the chiefs he only caught 2 passes. And it seems that after he had 1 season w/ 1006 yrds catching w/ WAS, that he's been on a steady decline once you look at his #'s. But one would also have to look at the teams he's been on. When he was w/ Washington and only got 600/650 2 years straight. The skins had a revolving door of QB's between Patrick Ramsey/Mark Brunell etc...

Then he goes to Green Bay and Brett Farve has a solid year w/ 3800 yrds passing. And then signs w/ the Chiefs after he's waived.

My question is....what's the guys problem? Can anyone tell me? Any ideas? Is it just the situation he's in or is it he's a declining player?

He's still a fairly young receiver and while inconsistant, has put up good #'s.

The popular opinion is that he has all the physical tools and looks the part. But hes dumb and lazy.

Pretty much the story of every 1st round bust.

Yeah, the guy has been a bust. But he's impressing in training camp. I'm not kidding. That catch he made in the scrimmage last night was SENSATIONAL.

Keep in mind, Eddie Kennison was a first-round bust too.

Receivers have to get the ball thrown to them in order to be effective. That's probably his main problem.

Any possibility of just letting him run loose like a chicken w/ his head cut off just for the distraction?

All 1st round picks have talent. Thats why they are chosen in the 1st round.

Whether or not they have the desire, heart and mental capacity to make it in the NFL is another matter...

See that's what I'm thinking. Does anyone know if he's had a problem like Parker/stone hands? Because looking at the stats he's basically had a total of at least 6 qb's throwing to him in 5 seasons. (not including KC)
