Telescope for the moon is difficult. You need to be able to screen out a lot of the light coming through the scope, it can be pretty intense.

Sounds like you wont really NEED a telescope, it should be pretty clear and easy to see unless you got some cloud cover. Last 2 times we have clouds or fog. Not everyone shares an appreciation for natural wonders/beauty. Do I have to give up my man-card for saying that???

Telescopes only help when you can see the moon. Looking at the moon when the eclipse is complete will be a disappointment.
