The only game I've went to was the 2012 loss to the Colts. Spouse got me tickets for Christmas (they were really cheap that year) and we set about 5 rows from the field behind the east goalposts. They were kicking extra points over our heads. A good game but 1 of the 14 losses that year.

12/21/97 against the Saints. The game didn't mean anything. Vanover ran a punt back for a TD. 39th row of the upper deck, right on the 50... cold rain in the parking lot, ice up at altitude in our seats.
First meaningful game and prime time game was the following year, ~4th row behind the Seahawks bench for SNF... shaved my head for the first time and a buddy and I painted our heads. Good times.

First game was preseason, upper level maybe. They use the crowd to record a commercial played We will rock you and we all clapped and stomped to the music. This is was time in the 1970's, maybe 75-79...
I don't remember who played or what the score was...

All I remember for my first game was it was a Steelers/Chiefs game and we lost. I bought a ticket that included a bus ride down, nose bleed ticket to the game, and all the free beer you could drink up and back. I think I was in my early 20s and had all the free beer I could drink. Ask me again if I remember my first Chiefs game...

I'm sad to say, I've never had the opportunity to. Hopefully I will someday.
I have seen the Chiefs play a few times in Florida though. |

My first game at Arrowhead was the Monday Night Football game in Week 2 of the 1976 season, with the Raiders beating the Chiefs 24-21.
Here's a recap of that game. https://www.nytimes.com/1976/09/21/a...-stars-as.html I was 10 years old. This was an exciting time in Kansas City sports, because the Royals had a 6-game lead on their then archrival Oakland A's, en route to their first AL West Division title. The Chiefs team was not that good that year, though it still had several players from their glory years. Last edited by DanT; 09-15-2022 at 02:36 PM.. |

Mine was the KC v Oilers on 12/18/94. I believe it was Joe Montana's last home game as a Chief. I lived in Overland Park at the time and that whole town was Chiefs crazy! I only lived in KC for that year and it was a great experience and really built my love for my favorite team of American Football, The Chiefs of Kansas City.
The second game I saw was a pre-season game in Norman, OK against the Bucs (at least I think it was the Bucs). Anyone know if they did other preseason games at neutral sites around that time?

Honestly can't remember. Probably a preseason game as a kid in the 90s.
The first game I can remember attending was in Tennessee. My brother's a Titans fan, so we drove to Nashville in 2000. Grbac vs McNair. Lost by 3 in OT. Probably would've lost in regulation but McNair went down with an injury and was replaced by Neil O'Donnell. All I remember is some hillbilly in front of us shouting "MacNair's down! MacNair's down!!" about 20 times. |

My first game at Arrowhead was the first game ever played at Arrowhead. I wonder how many other CPers can say that?
Preseason game versus the St. Louis Cardinals, August 12, 1972. I was seven. I remember being there, and that we had excellent seats in the lower level on the home side. Outside of that, nothing. My stepfather had a cushy political state job (that he would lose a few months later when Bond won the governorship) and got the tickets as a perk. I don't recall ever even watching a game on TV prior to that. Didn't understand shit that was going on. I assume Lenny played at least a couple of series, along with Jim Hart for the Cardinals, but I didn't even know who they were at the time. It wasn't until years later that I realized that was the first game played at the new stadium. I didn't see another Chiefs game in person until 1996. Didn't see a game in person at Arrowhead again until 1998. |
