Andrew Luck Retires

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

To be honest if you really love football you have a few screws loose in the head if you are a player. You put your body through unnatural harm. Cant blame Luck one bit for retiring. If I was in his shoes, I would probably done the same thing.

Manning

Brees
Rothlisberger

Even guys like Matt Ryan are getting up there in age...Russ and Stafford aren’t far behind.

The NFL needs an influx of talent at the QB position, but so many of the arm talents go to other sports nowadays.
The league changed the rules for QB’s when Pollard destroyed Brady’s knee. They changed it again when Rodgers got placed on IR by Anthony Barr.

More rules are coming after this. Besides Mahomes, Wentz and Watson were two of the NFL’s youngest stars and they already went through IR before.

This is a devastating loss to the league. It hurts the parity and makes that many games less watchable.

Pat? Watson? Wentz?

if one of Daniel Jones, Haskins, Kyler Murray hits then great.

Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert and Tua are coming. One of them will pan out. NFL will be fine.

Feel bad for a fanbase that had the privilege of watching this QB come back from a 28-point deficit and beat us in the playoffs? When he recovered a fumble for a TD?

Nah. No sympathy here. I'll enjoy the fact that two of our biggest AFC rivals in the Colts and the Chargers are stacking up retirements, injuries, and holdouts.

And good for Luck. 99% of the time it's a team walking away from a contract to the detriment of the player. This is just the flip side of that.

Multiple concussions

Torn labrum in his throwing shoulder

Calf/ankle issue (which many think is a precursor to a torn achilles)

Alternatively, Andrew could have had "Day to Day" status through the 2019 season and avoided the press and the fans as everyone was being told cryptically that he could play every day. He then could have blown an achilles his first game back, and missed NEXT year too (2020), all the while taking premiere money from the organization. Imagine if he then was day to day to start 2021 too..

He's leaving four years of money on the table. That takes guts. We would have been shocked if Eric Berry retired in last year's preseason, but it likely would have made his lasting memory with the org so much better. Props to Andrew for making a really difficult decision, having that decision leak, and then walking out of his last home game holding his head up to a shower of boos.
That’s not Hobo’s spirit. He would of sucked the dogs dick getting every last cent out of the Mahomian Franchise he could. That’s the character of the Hobospirit. Luck had a 6 million dollar roster bonus coming 9/17/2019. Luck has more character in his left little toe nail clipping than Hobospirit would ever have if lived a 1000 years.

Just watched his press conference. Big fan of the guy after seeing that. Very open and honest presser. Really seemed to me that he wasn’t going to be physically able to play this season anyway. Best wishes to him. As for Colts fans,

Because everybody else knows he ain’t about shit and was just ****ing the Chiefs over the barrel. All for a nickel. You be you hobo. Should of known your character after your first contract. He's actually helping the team by retiring now instead of getting paid astronomically to rehab and not play this season (like Eric Berry did to us last year...)

Ain't it though.

As I posted before. Living in constant pain, having to be cut open, trying to get your body back to the way it was , over and over again, all that will take a toll on a man...any man.
No amount of money will get you a new body. And 10, 20, 30 years from now he'll probably still be paying the price.

I didn’t watch all of his press conference and I may have missed it, but did he mention this? Cause that’s the first I’ve heard of an Achilles issue.

It’s been calf/ankle all along.

Also, I don’t believe for a second he’ll be back.

The Colts were a baffling team to me....definitely on the up, but I thought they were a little over-rated last year, and was curious to see how they react with a little bit tougher road this year. This obviously changes things significantly, and coupled with Lamar Miller's ACL injury, the AFC South is once again wide open.....

Oh yeah: and obligatory "couldn't happen to a nicer franchise"
