Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Ok, so my treadmill finally died, and I'm going to make the commitment to joining a gym. Last gym I was a member of was 24hour fitness, and I used the shit out of it, but was working out in the evenings. That was 4 years ago. Now my kids have sports almost every evening, so evenings aren't an option. I'll be going early before work now. Only thing is, it's got to have shower facilities and a locker room for this plan to work for me. So, in looking around, there is an Aspen fitness up the street and right on the way to work. I checked it out last night. Tons of cardio machines, a pretty nice spread of free weights and benches, racks, etc., and lots of weight machines, which I don't do much of. Plenty of free weights and cardio for what I need though. They offer all sorts of classes that are included in the fees below, and my wife may or may not take them.
Here are their "deals".
1. Month to Month: Pay $60 down, then $60 per month for family. There is a $50 club maintenance fee every six months. Yearly total would be $830

2. 12 month commitment: Pay $0 down, then $55 per month for family. Still a $50 fee at 6 months. Total yearly would be $710

3. Pay in Full Membership: $679 for the wife )includes kids and includes classes, and $500 for me. No down, and this covers 3 years with no other fees. Total cost for the three years would be $1179. That comes to about $33 per month.

I'm thinking of bucking up and paying in full. I figure, even if the wife peters out on working out, it's still $33 per month for me for the next three years.

I consumed about 1000 calories at breakfast this morning... Chicken, cheese, bacon and biscuits. Should I be worried?

Anybody know any decent resistant band exercises that are good with a pacemaker in? I keep getting mixed results on this judging from it's all good to never ever exercise your chest and just do a lot of running (I ****ing hate running)

Anyone ever know anyone who went through this?

They don't define prolonged fasting and skipping breakfast hardly sends someone into "starvation." They try to say 12 hour fasting is fine, but they don't conclusively say that 24 hour fasting is bad. I don't know... just seems like a weird study.
AFAIK, once you pass about 16 hours, you've pretty much exhausted the benefits of fasting, aside from calorie restriction.

Dead lifts are where it's at. Front squats were designed to make tall/thin people like me look even more stupid that we usually do in the squat rack.

Well, starting tomorrow, I'll be very active in the morning. I'll be hitting the gym from 6-7am. I know I'll have to incorporate some form of protein shake or I'll probably crash about 10am.
First workout will be 20mins elliptical, 10 minutes on a bike, 25 mins on chest and back, and 5 minutes on abs. I know, I know, it's not about minutes, but rather sets. I'm giving myself one hour, and I'll get as much done in those time frames as possible. Over time, I might chop off 10 minutes of the cardio and incorporate more weights/core work if I feel I'm not getting enough time for that. I'm getting back in the game!

Most of my workouts are under an hour. I start with weight training though, and then end with cardio intervals.

Yes, I do have a screwed up back. I think I may have to give up deadlifting. I tried it again this morning. Didn't feel awesome.
