If he's dirt cheap, I'd do it. But I'm not big on paying him (or Darby) decent money to not be healthy.

I actually fully agree with all of this. But it's rolling some major dice. And most importantly, we don't know the price. If these guys sign on reduced prove-it deals, sure. But we have no evidence that corners are caving. If I were in their shoes, I'd absolutely hold out. This is a seller's market.
