Damn you. After I polish off the 18, I've got 80% bottles of 12 and Laphroiag.

I like the Laphroaig. I've pretty much liked all the upper end scotches that I've tried, except Oban, which to me tastes like Anbesol. Ick.

This summer, I met a couple of Oban drinkers who talked about Macallan like it was piss. I'm sure the entire time I was talking to them I had the "Holy shit, so this is what an extra-terrestrial looks like" face.

2001 bottle of Gewurztraminer that I've had for a couple years. Bought it for a girl I went out with for a while only to discover that she was a 25 year old, non-religious, virgin. Perhaps in hindsight, her collection of Sesame Street "Elmo" dolls should have tipped me off.

Really?, I love Macallan, cause of the Sherry cask and all, but I think I got a similar response from the Irish when I was there. The best Irish I had there was "Middleton's" named so because the town is halfway between Dublin and Cork. They had to ask a manager if it was ok before they would let me drink it. It was excellent.

That's been my experience in Ireland, as well. Don't bother ordering scotch, it's not worth the trouble. Just man up on their triple-distilled crap and hope for the best. Bushmills makes a single malt, though I'm not sure it's marketed in Ireland.
