Is it just me or is this year really cap-conscious? I feel like there is going to be a holdout again because players are getting chopped rather than paid. It's like all the GMs re-read Moneyball this offseason.

I don’t know how many signings there will be because I think all signs point to KC loading up the defense through the draft, but I actually do expect one or two ‘flashy’ signings.

If I absolutely had to predict one, I think Watkins might actually happen. But that obviously depends on if teams like SF are willing to fork over way more guaranteed money than he may be worth.

Just watch some of the plays this guy makes when he gets opportunities: https://youtu.be/Sd1BJGjqt70 (can’t embed right now)

You can’t tell me that the Mahomes and the Chiefs couldn’t really use a guy who is that dynamic. We have no proven capable receivers outside of Hill right now, and we haven’t even saw him play with Pat yet.

If I’m Veach, I’m saying to myself that we’re going to load the defense through the draft. We might sprinkle in a guard somewhere, and maybe sign a defender or two. But the best chance to really help Mahomes and the offense is to add a playmaker like Watkins. He can be dominant in 1v1 situations, and you know damn well that Mahomes is going to give his guys chances to make plays.

And if we’re being honest, an offensive skill grouping of Mahomes-Hunt-Kelce-Hill-Watkins would probably be the most talented unit in football.

I think this draft will look very similar to Seattle’s last year.

Very much so. We might use 6 of those 8 picks on defense.

There are still dudes that are going to get a ton of money in FA. (Cousins, Trumaine Johnson, Kyle Fuller, Allen Robinson, Andrew Norwell, etc)

The only reason it sticks out is because marquee names of yesteryear are finally getting cut as their bodies have worn down and are severely overpaid for their current production.

This won't be like baseball where it's Eric Hosmer getting paid and everyone else is completely frozen out of the money.

Some folks seem to think Allen Robinson is the guy San Fran may go after and not Watkins.

Why would he go out and sign a guy like Butler for example for big money? A guy like Albert Wilson is going to get 4-5 mil per yet people on here think we'll sign him for 2 mil. The NFL agent market salaries have inflated the past several seasons yet every year people are throwing around 2009 free agent prices for guys. Wishful thinking I guess.

I think he was saying he won't be disappointed because he wasn't expecting any big signings, rather than opposing your view of big signings.

5. Slot receivers are tough to value. Aging slot receivers have a tough time getting paid. But my sense is that Danny Amendola’s going into a pretty decent market. I’d keep an eye on Kansas City, a team that can compete now and could use another security blanket for its new starter, and Amendola’s fellow ex-Texas Tech Red Raider, Patrick Mahomes.

Decent article that makes the case for signing a WR.

Two FA targets that make most sense for Chiefs: Robinson and Watkins
