You want a really shocking stat? Well, kind of shocking, anyway...
Ki-Jana Carter went #1 overall in 1995. Since then, 15 QBs have been selected at #1 overall. Currently, in terms of all-time #1 overall picks since 1936, QBs lead all positions. There have been 33 QBs drafted #1 overall. The second most-selected position at #1 overall? RB. With 23. If you do the math, that means that in 1995, RBs were historically the most drafted #1 overall pick, and led QBs 23-18 |

Eric Fisher is more of a rare breed than you might think, too. Drafting OTs #1 overall really hasn't been that historically common.
If you don't count Jake Long and Orlando Pace, the last OT to be taken #1 overall was Ron Yary in 1968. And there haven't been any OTs taken before him (at least not in terms of our modern conception of the position). |

The running game was a big deal in the past, and the running back had more touches than the quarterback. Heck, a center was an MVP once in the 1940s. That's a commitment to the run game if I ever heard one.

Quenton Nelson may be the rarest breed of all. Has there been a modern-era guard taken in the top five before him? It's possible, but I'm not sure who it would be.
I guess Ray Guy is the rarest of them all. Stupid Raiders.

Nelson went 6th overall. Brandon Scherff was drafted as a tackle, but has played guard for most of his career, and he was taken 5th overall in 2015.

There were six top-five guards in the 1960s, though we had a split draft for part of that, and two in the 1940s.

The last top-five center was Bob Johnson in 1968. It's time for another one.

Apparently the Falcons had QB in the 70s named Dick Shiner, beat that name.
