2nd thought about Glennon

Having a 2nd thought about the Long Necked Goose here guys ..... Not to change my desire to have Geno at # 1, but this UNC game showed me more of Glennon that I wasn't aware of. To be fair to Glennon, I really haven't given him to much credit and this game was a reason why I have a different opinion of him.

He has poor receivers, guys with stone hands. Now a lot of this could be the heat behind his throws, but the accuracy is there. He has a cannon for an arm and fits the prototypical style under center pocket passer in the NFL.

If the kids has it upstairs, he's going to move up the draft charts if he has a better than average combine, long neck and all.

Just a few things to watch and see here on this video......

1:30 Nice throw
2:30 Back to Back over the middle, taking what the D allows
3:05 , a very nice pass
3:55 ...again
4:25 nice throw
5:20 a BOMB ! 60 + yards, roll out of the pocket allows the receiver to break away and a perfect hit in stride.
Funny the commentator says a little half roll by the receiver when it was a fly pattern / or go route which ever you wish to call it.
6:20
6:30
6:57
10:12 Perfect long ball in stride
10:35 Another perfect long ball in stride

Rest of the video was a lot of bad passes as well as stupid throws.

For the most part I came away with a different view of Glennon. A good QB coach can work with this kid. I came away with the feeling he has more upside than downside.

The kid will go 1st round for sure, depending on how he grades at the combine, no worst than the 4th or 5th QB taken.

Heh, nice analogy, but it's too early to put either of them in this scenario. Geno has some flaws to work on and I'm willing to see him in KC anyday. Glennon is a higher risk but he does have the ability to work with. It's going to take some good work by his QB coach to get him there.

IMHO, I see this years top 5 QB's as ...

Smith
Wilson
Bray
Barkley
Glennon

With Bray & Barkley as possibly switching places. The combines will be a telling indications of the bottom 4.

That's the same pass (10:18 really) and a replay. No double credit here.

10:12 was one of his many short dumps where he got a receiver or running back killed.

He can still run the pistol/spread without the run option in the offense. This will keep him from getting lit up as well.

Heh, yur right.

I never said he was perfect, he does throw high a lot, plus the quick kill shots to RB's out of the backfield, quick dumps on WR's. But this is a teaching / coaching problem and not anything that can't be fixed. Most QB's get locked down on a certain receiver and at most times because they are about to get killed in the pocket, wanting the dump the pass off. Sometimes taking the sack is better, something that is taught or coached up as you will.

Best of my knowledge I do not recall a SB winner doing this ?

Sure he was off on several throws, what QB coming out of college isn't? Even Geno , of whom we all like so much has to learn to be a under center QB, just as RG3 had to learn.

I think comparing him to Big Os is unfair, Glennon IMHO is more accurate & the long ball separates them a lot. I do think he will have to bulk up some to withstand the punishment of the NFL.

Somebody is going to take this kid in the 1st and if they have a good QB coach, he has a chance to do well in the NFL.
My Assweiler comparison still stands. I said he's like Ass in his inconsistency, but throws downfield a lot more than Ass. Glennon has more balls, that's for sure.

Also, here's how I've always felt about receivers who can't catch: in a close game, they can get you losses. But they should not account for excuses in stats or quality gamefilm. Glennon's doing something wrong just as much as his terrible receivers if we keep turning to his receivers with supposedly stone hands.

Assuming they workout at the combine which I don't see any of them doing so other than running the 40. But throwing for Smith, Wilson,Bray and Barkley, I doubt it. They will do the private workout thing on their campus IMO .

Now Glennon will throw at the combine and I do like what I see in this kid. He is tough and stands in the pocket and not afraid to thread the needle even IF they are errant throws and decisions at times. And that can be corrected by identifying more accurately what he sees over time. Some of you say he doesn't have the "IT factor". By watching his body language and demeanor not to mention his strong arm this kid is extremely competitive, looks very confident and very aggressive even when he was down 25 to 7. This kid didn't even bat an eye and kept playing like the game was tied the whole time and exhibited good short term memory when he messed up and kept right on being aggressively competitive.

Now the real question here is, what would have a lot of people on this board said about a video game clip on a no name kid like Tom Brady back in 99 that was taken in the 6th rd ???? Get my point ?

I like this kid. Not for our first pick of course BUT I really like him because he has the "fire in the belly to win" with all the raw talent to be developed even better.

Good find ROY !!

Because Kiper said so?

This ****ing guy isn't half the quarterback that Landry Jones is and all of a sudden Glennon is a first rounder? Based on what? He's 6'6"? Gee...

Tom Brady won the shit out of games. For his entire college career he ****ed other teams up. That he went in the sixth round shows you how stupid NFL scouts can be and how they get enamored with "proto-type" guys with cannons for arms. Guys like Glennon who haven't really done shit in college and who are pretty inaccurate for their entire career and who get rattled way too easy.

****ing Kyle Boller could throw an 80 yard pass on his knees. That doesn't mean he wasn't going to shove the football up the other teams ass because he had the drive and will and quick release and pocket presence and accuracy. Kinda like Geno. Just saying...

I like watching kiper break down film on players I haven't watched much in college but the dude is wrong more than right.
These draft analysts put way too much emphasis on measurables which is even stupider than judging someone based strictly on their statistics.

After we get Geno, I would take him in the 3rd round like Mallet.

I think there's a lot to like in that video. But I wouldn't take Glennon as the "main guy". Developmental guy.
