My targets.

Sorry I don't have time to format this cleverly, but I was at the draft last night and I'm exhausted.

I think the Chiefs made a really solid pick yesterday considering their best options were all swifted away in the previous 12 picks before them. The WR run was stupid, Nolan Smith being swiped the pick before us was a crime, and of course my beloved Mazi Smith was inexplicably taken by a team that won't know how to use him.

I do think we were lied to: Clark Hunt was going to tank almost any deal to move up or move back. He wanted the trophies displayed, and he wanted the 31st pick.

I've compared Felix's game to Tamba Hali, and I only just now put together than he probably grew up in KC worshiping Tamba, which is why he wore 91 for the Wildcats. (I will imagine he'll swipe 91 off Nnadi.)

I would have made a different selection I think, but I don't think any player I would have taken is markedly better. FAU is probably the only DE we have no that isn't suited to reduce down to DT on passing downs, I don't care what he did at Kansas State. (That said, the Chiefs already have three DEs who can do that.)

The Chiefs were so pathetic at DE roughly a year ago, they had Mike Danna and the remaining husk of Frank Clark and that was all they had. In about 12 months, Veach has repaired the position long-term. He brought in Karlaftis who gave us badly needed snaps in the first round, came with a high floor, and after logging 5 sacks in the last 6 games, I believe he's poised for a double-digit sack campaign. He brought in Charles Omenihu for pennies on the dollar, and now he's logged FAU.

FAU is probably going to be fine his rookie campaign. But under Joe Cullen, this guy has double digit sack potential in Year 2 and definitely may be Year 3. The physical tools are mostly there (but like Tamba, not particularly elite, I don't care what his Combine numbers are), but combining those good physical tools with what I think is an insanely deep arsenal of moves gives FAU a high floor and it wouldn't surprise me if he logs 15 sacks or a season or two once the contract year arrives.

Mike Danna is a free agent next year, and it's not clear to me the Chiefs can bring him back for the money he'll deserve. So next year they'll enter with two first round pick talents and Omenihu. I think DE is the 2nd most important position on a football team and Veach has done it right.

The Chiefs should move up in the 2nd round. The talent from 20 to 50 is pretty much the same (with one Nolan Smith-sized exception), and you can have two second-tier players for good value if you do that.

With that in mind, I think the best thing the Chiefs can do with either of their picks today is trade one for Hopkins. Get the Cardinals across the finish line, and use the other pick on either an offensive or defensive tackle, where ever they think the value is the best. Personally, Jaelyn Duncan would be at the top of my board in Round 2, and I'd move up for him. I personally didn't think the Chiefs needed a right tackle that badly, but if you're going to win the Super Bowl, you're going to need the best OL possible to mitigate that Eagles defensive line, which is going to look like a Pro Bowl position grouping by the end of the year.

If Keeanu Benton fell to the late 40s, I'd be aggressive for him as well. Benton or Duncan would be my targets.

With a deep DE rotation, Hopkins and Kelce, and a Spags'd up secondary, I think this team holds the pole position for January.

It's way too early, but I'm not yet sure this team can take on Philly. What they have done in free agency, the insane contract they've put Jalen Hurts on, and the unbelievable draft they had yesterday... I think the Eagles are, right at this moment, the best team in the NFL. And right now, I think the Chiefs are comfortably at #2 if they land Hopkins, a good step ahead of the Bengals and Bills.

Keep Veaching the draft, though, and anything's possible.

I am just dreaming a little bit on the obvious pass rushing downs. I think you could, and should, have a line that looks like:
Karlaftis, Jones, Omenihu, FAU
Jones can then opt to bounce GK inside if he likes that match up better.

I can’t disagree with anything said here. I’m just feeling more and more like Hopkins isn’t happening though. I think beach targets a wr tonight to keep the theme of low cost at premium positions. Everyone wants mingo myself included, I have a feeling it’s rice or Perry though.

Arizona is out of options, Bills GM said they aren't making a move for him and Baltimore uses a 1 on a WR after signing OBJ...

And signs Antonio brown. I wonder how it could actually shake out. I’d kick the tires on a late pick for swift too. But I mean a 6-7

I'm not sure the AB to Baltimore stuff is true.

I'm not overly excited about our D-Line, I probably would have preferred Foskey.
