I think this staff panicked and saw they didn’t have their bookend tackles or any of their OL heading into the offseason. They also saw they didn’t have LB talent either which was a huge problem.

They did a nice job attacking those holes but they definitely needed a pass rusher.

And sure Jarran Reed was a decent signing. He was good in Seattle. But we really need DE’s

Ingram's gonna be a pretty painful miss, it would appear.

Not sure what kind of impact he'd have made last week, but his athleticism couldn't have hurt. He just may not be more than a situational rusher for this team and maybe he wanted more snaps than that.

Hard to really know how that all went down.

It's looking that way. I just hope some are just getting used to Spags scheme. Yeah, probably not. The thing I don't get to this day is letting Tim Ward get poached. The only thing I can figure is they thought they had a lock on Ingram so they cleared some people to make room. The Dirty Birds swooped in maybe?

Looking at the EDGE guys that were realistically available in free agency and the contracts they signed not a single one looks all that appealing. Ingram was the exception and there was a reason he was available so late in the process but the fact it only took 4 million for the Steelers to sign him is pretty irritating. I'd love to know what we offered, if anything, or if the medical check killed our interest.

Take that back. Reddick might've been nice but Arizona ****ed around with his position so much it's hard to tell what he'd actually offer as a full time DE. Early results in Carolina are really nice.....

Waaaaaaay too small, IMO.

Ingram is even a little on the slight side, but you could play him as a LEO and be okay w/ Clark in on running downs and/or kicked to the strong side w/ Jones inside.

But Reddick is a linebacker. I don't see him operating in-line on an even front.

Sure.

But who's the cavalry here? This is just a strict personnel issue that doesn't seem likely to miraculously resolve itself by week 10.

There's a roster gap that was largely of our own creation. We've done things like let Ogbah walk because we threw too much money at Okafor (and yes, Frank Clark). And no, Tim Ward is no sort of panacea, but how could you cut Charlton AND Ward and figure you're not going to have real troubles at DE?

I see and appreciate the plan at DB and LB - but what were they doing on the DL? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Oh don't think I was trying to say anything, that was me just having a mini panic attack about this season because I feel the same way you do.

Jones at strong side DE primarily seems to have been the plan.

Which is fine on passing downs. He just proved that he can’t play DE full time.

Or it works out just fine against teams that aren't the #1 and #2 rushing attacks, but it's obvious they need another contingency plan at DE if/when we run into those teams again.
