The Early Years Tournament: Round 5, Heat 1. The Final Four
2018 - Week 14 - W 27-24 over BAL
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...1812090kan.htm Chiefs 10-2 / Ravens 7-5 At 4:40 of the highlights, check out the great Tyreek non-scoring play. Speed kills. And speaking of Tyreek, this game is most notable due to a 4th and 9 play with 1:20 left in the game, down 7, do or die, and you know the rest. One of the greatest regular season plays in Chiefs history took place. Damien Williams scored with 53 seconds left to tie it up, and then Justin Houston made a great strip sack and recovery with a few seconds left ... but we missed the field goal as time expired! We pushed the ball downfield on a long overtime drive, with Eric Fisher making a key fumble recovery on a fluke Mahomes fumble (13:10 of the highlights), and Butker atoned for 2 missed field goals by kicking one to take the lead. The defense then made a dramatic stand on the other team's last-gasp drive with a sack by Houston and Ford that put Lamar Jackson out of the game and a couple of great pass breakups by Orlando Scandrick and Kendall Fuller. In the end, the defense held Jackson to only 147 passing yards while Mahomes went for 377. The leading yardage guys were Tyreek (145) and Spencer Ware (129). 2022 - Week 7 - W 44-23 over SFO https://www.pro-football-reference.c...2210230sfo.htm Chiefs 4-2 / 49ers 3-3 The Chiefs were an offensive juggernaut on this day. Case in point: Mecole Hardman scored three touchdowns, and he was tied for fourth in yards from scrimmage with 60, behind Juju (124), MVS (111), and Kelce (98). Pacheco also had 60. Patrick had a great day with 423 yards passing. Our six touchdowns averaged 17 yards in length. The defense gave up points, but also registered 5 sacks (2 by Chris Jones that included a strip, and a safety by Frank Clark), and 2 interceptions. Joshua Williams made a great red zone interception to stop a very short drive after a fumbled punt return. Per tradition, we spotted the 49ers a 10 point lead before blowing the doors off of them with 30 second-half points. Unfortunately, the highlights don't show the signature play of this game, where the Chiefs flipped their feet in unison on a field goal attempt to cause a false start. |

Baltimore.
4th and 9. Mahomes’s most incredible play imo.

We have two games featuring the 7th highest and 15th highest single-game passing yards of Patrick Mahomes II's career. Which do you like?
The 49ers game was a thing of beauty and a beatdown. The Ravens game was a nailbiter that went to overtime. I don't like close games, but that 4th and 9 play is legendary. I'll go Baltimore.

That 4th and 9 play catapulted Mahomes into another stratosphere to me.
I spent my life watching Steve Sabol highlight videos of Joe Montana, Steve Young, Kurt Warner and football legends come through when dead to rights in the fourth quarter on 4th down like that -- and I never thought that one of those QB's would develop as the franchise QB in Kansas City. But I never, ever saw one of the above QB's make a throw like that. Mahomes proved that day that he not only kept his composure, but rose to the occasion to give us what may prove to be the most memorable regular season win of his career (so far). |
