Donkeys in free fall

If this has been discussed in an earlier thread, my apologies.

Cutler just abused Denver last night...it was a thing of freaking beauty. I'll be the first one to say that Cutler and the Donks both screwed up this summer, resulting in the trade to Chicago where Denver got R2D2 Orton and a bag of magic beans for a Pro Bowl QB.

Cutler showed that he has terrific game, an understanding of how to play the game as a mature QB, and he didn't let the sideshow get to him. Chicago has a brilliant QB of the NOW and the FUTURE.

The Donks, on the other hand, have a dinged, sub-par QB in Orton, lots of starters injured on offense, Brandon Marshall going Ochocinco on them, and a rookie coach who is about to flame out in year one. Oh yeah...a HORRIFIC defense that ranks in the bottom five in the league.

I may be wrong, but I can't recall a division having three worse teams in the same year than the AFC West (Donks, Chiefs, Raydahs).

Last year, after the Super Bowl, there was a poll on orangemane: who is the better QB, Roethlesberger or Cutler. They had Cutler winning like 200 votes to 50. I bet their feelings are different now.

I want to know if you would have said the same thing I quoted; you did not simply say "preseason means nothing."

Unfortunately for Orton... injuries and a suspension to the team's biggest mental case depleted a lot of his options. It's hard to get much more complicated than screen passes when you have Chad Jackson starting at the #2 WR slot to open the game.

Overall, the defense looked good early on vs CHI and the Bears didn't do much until that 98 yard drive - that was a nice series they put together. DEN was close to making them punt twice, but it didn't happen.

So far, 2009 is starting off the way 2008 ended... lots of injuries. Simms has to be thinking "WHY WHY WHY" in regards to being hurt, he would have a prime opportunity now to make a move up the chart.

These "Broncos Doomed" threads are the only reason for Chiefs' fans to get out of bed these days.

The threads are funny but the Broncos aren't coming off a 2-14 season. To be honest the Broncos look unorganized but so do the Chiefs.

The Broncos have more of a train wreck factor.

Abused? I don't know about that. Cutler proved a solid game and had 3-4 throws that Orton couldn't dream of making. That said, Orton didn't majorly screw the pooch or anything either. You can't hold the fluke injury against him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm damn happy that Cutler's gone, but he only had one really good drive.

It's easy...Denver has further to fall than KC. Denver HAD a Pro Bowl QB last year...they should have won more games, and so they did.

Saying that Cutler only had one good drive is kind of funny considering dude played how many minutes total?

Cutler isn't at Manning or Brady's level, but he's clearly in that next tier below that. Of the young QBs out there, I think he and Ryan have the most upside right now.

Get used to swing passes and screens with Orton. Dude can't hit the long outs and several other down field NFL routes. It is what it is. If that's good enough to make Denver successful on offense, great for you guys. I'm not buying it, however.

BTW, tell Knowshon to suck it up...I have him on my fantasy team!

Yeah, I was actually impressed with how the Denver DEF looked early on... there's some promise with the new system.

Yeah, but last year, you were probably one of the many around here saying that Rivers (not Cutler) should have gone to the probowl. Now, you bow down to Cutler... kinda funny.

That one drive you are referencing was a 98yrd late in the half ball busting drive that was very reminiscent of Elway. He broke the back of the defense on that drive and they never recovered. The Donk defense had been playing inspired up until that point in the game.

I also noticed Orton has been reduced to short dump-off passes based on misdirection. The down-field passes have been iliminated from the offense the last two games. An offense can't make mistakes with that type of scheme and they made plenty. Meanwhile, Cutler was hitting laser accurate passes down-field.

I am soooo glad Cutler is in Chicago.

Cutler wasn't perfect, but getting that 98 yard TD drive in a supremely hostile environment showed a lot of vision and maturity. He's very, very good.
