I might be splitting hairs here.
I see that as a bad pick and not necessarily a bad trade. We traded 54 and 78 for 46 and 100. That isn’t necessarily a bad trade. We just whiffed horribly with that pick. To me, that’s more of a negative in Veach’s “draft” column than his “trade” column. I just double checked the trade value chart. We lost that trade by 20 points (the equivalent of a 6th round pick). Not a great trade, but still more of a bad pick than trade.

Nothing wrong with two seconds for Smith. Denver just gave up 2 firsts, 2 2nds, a starting TE, starting D-Lineman, and a backup QB for Alex Smith.
I kid (sort of). |

Russell Wilson is a weirdo douchebag, but in no realm is Alex Smith anywhere close to as talented as Russell. Not even an almost 34 year old Wilson.

You wouldn't believe the things they've talked themselves into in the Bronco thread. Today someone said that Wilson is basically the same as Bridgewater.

The two draft picks that went in Frank Clark trade were pretty underwhelming.

Maybe the Frank Clark trade was a push.
We got one good year out of Clark. We have also been stuck with a huge albatross around our necks contract. Seattle got DE L.J. Collier who has done nothing. Seattle traded the 2nd round pick it got from Kansas City in 2020 for two other picks and ended up with guard Damien Lewis and end Alton Robinson. Alton has been a backup DE with 44 tackles in 2 years and Damien Lewis has been a starting guard. Maybe Seattle won because of the money that they saved in the trade. |

If they can't sign OBJ or recoup something for him in another trade you could argue that giving up a 1st rounder for 2 years of "serviceable" left tackle play is a loss. We will see.

That additional second rounder allowed us to draft both Creed and Bolton. We can still flip out of OBJ next year if we choose. I think that trade has been a huge success.

The OBJ trade was a coup. I forget if we got Creed or Bolton with that 2nd but either player is going to be a Pro Bowler. |

Not even close to a loss. We got a good LT for 2 years minimum AND Nick Bolton. Not bad for a first rounder (and some other stuff).

It will definitely be a win or push in my mind but I get raybec thinking it's a potential loss if OBJ doesn't re-sign. Oweh looks like he could end up a pretty good end and Marco Wilson started last year at CB for Arizona (the 4th rounder in the deal Bal traded). If Cleveland ends up a starting LG for BAL it gets pretty narrow. We'll have to see it through another year.

The Brett Veach 2018 trade for CB Charvarius Ward for OL Parker Ehinger with Dallas Cowboys was a big win
