Coming off an American League Divisional Series appearance, its year 3 of Matt Quatraro tenure. Can they take the next step to a division title? Can Bobby Witt, Jr. take his superstar status to another level? Can Cole Ragans develop more? Will the other starting pitching duplicate last season? The offense can it deliver more? Who will be in the outfield? How about the new stadium development?

Side note. That moment was one of the greatest memories I'll take to my grave. I had my kids with me, we stayed up late watching the game that night, had a lot of fun with them. Even my daughters were talking about certain plays and really getting into the games that off season. But the end of that particular game, watching the joy on all their faces as we went wild jumping up and down hugging and cheering. I couldn't help just sitting there and watching my kids go crazy. Just one of those pure moment of joy in life.

Exhibit A bad ball hitting:

Salvy is imperfect, but he's ours, we love him, and wouldn't trade him for anyone.
I love Salvy and all his flaws as well, but that specific plate appearance was more about protecting the plate with 2 strikes and 2 outs, no?

One hit doesn't mean anything. It would be one thing if Salvy was fast. Because hes gonna have alot of bad contact when he swings at balls and he cant run it out. Hes absolutely the type of player who SHOULD be selective. Slow with tons of power. It has just never been his approach. I doubt it is lack of trying. Patience to a large degree is god given.

Salvy actually isnt that good at hitting balls outside of the zone. That is just something announcers like to say. Look at his zones on Baseball Savant and compare it to say Bobby Witt Jr. Bobby tends to struggle with pitches high in the zone but has pretty much a great batting avg on balls pitched ANYWHERE else EVEN outside of the strike zone. Salvy has bad averages anywhere outside of the strike zone but absolutely feasts on strikes except on the high corners.

Yes, but I view that as a legitimate skill of his. He is a bad ball hitter and while he chases a LOT it also is a part of his game where he can go off the plate 6 inches and still generate a solid swing. If you're not used to swinging at that shit, it's NOT easy. I tried swinging at pitches off the plate because certain umpires were calling really wide strike zones and lord changing your hand placement throws everything off. And I was failing doing it against guys throwing 10-20 MPH slower than what he's going against. He's winning championships with those swings.

I'd like to see some statistics on that. Would be interesting to see.... I can only think of one other hitter that i've seen being able to generate the power on bad balls that salvy has had. That being Vlad Sr.

That was one of my favorite trips to KC. Didn’t get to go to the Royals game, but was sitting in a hotel parking lot east on I-70 after hearing the Kaufman crowd upon returning from dinner. Sat in the parking lot drinking beer and listening on the radio, completely unable to speak because I’d attended the 142.2 db drubbing of the cheatriots the day before.
