The wnba does a huge disservice by trying so hard to kiss angel Reese’s feet. And we all know a lot of that is for social reasons instead of performance. Maybe if she spends months in the lab doing nonstop Mikan drill she can live exclusively in the post. The problem is bully ball can work in college and it gave way too many false indicators in her rookie year in the pros.

She isn’t representative of the talent out there without needing to prop up a bad one. It sounds like the girl guarding clark last night had her in jail with defense. That’s the kind of rivalries they should be focusing on.

Why is Angel Reese a 'dominant' low post presence?

Is 6'3" and 175 lbs 'big' by WNBA standards? Why is this her game?

It seems equal parts 'lack of ability outside of 5 feet' and 'want to' I suppose. But it doesn't seem like she's someone that should be living with her back to the basket either way.

Sophie Cunningham isn't built much differently than her and has played G going back to her Mizzou days. Why are we acting like Reese is someone that can go out there and dominate from the low post? Maybe the fact that she gets blocked a shitload and can't finish worth a damn has something to do with the fact that she's just not built to be a post player? She looks like she should be something of a small forward sort to me. She needs to be playing around the elbow.

I'm going to claim ignorance before saying what I'm about to say, because I dont watch this sport, but if you take her out of the post you probably remove any value she has on the court - rebounding her own missed layups. She's one of the worst shooters in the league just by looking at the numbers and she doesnt seem to be able to handle the ball very well with all the traveling clips I've seen of hers and the fact she is leading the league with 5 turnovers a game currently. She is like the classic case of a loud player from a large successful college getting the benefit of the doubt. How the **** is she even a starter? She's one of the worst players in the league who's only good stat is rebounding but if she could actually shoot the ****ing ball it wouldn't be as good as it seems as she sits there averaging more offensive rebounds than defensive.

That's kinda my point.

This idea that she SHOULD be good if she could just finish is odd to me. Part of the reason she can't finish is because she's just not built to be a low post player.

It's like saying I SHOULD be an NFL receiver because I'm 6'0" and 180 lbs. Problem is I'm slow (and old, weak and uncoordinated, but that's just piling on).

She has a physical REASON why the specific style of game she wants to play to mitigate her obvious skill limitations doesn't work for her. That doesn't mean that we should just expect that she'll overcome that issue.

It means she's probably just not a very good player.

Angel Reese has the shooting and handles of a C but the size of a small forward. That just makes her a shitty try-hard, does it not?

It makes her poverty Joakim Noah.

She basically maxed out in college. Just like a lot of NFL prospects do.

But the WNBA has a lot less of a talent pool to choose from. So she gets a job

Exactly. She 'graduated' into being a classic Tweener and nobody wants to admit it.

Make her 3 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier and I'd say "man, she might just be more time away from being a real force down low..."

But she's not.

There are physical reasons she's not capable of playing the game she's trying to play. And because she's the brash loud-mouth who's willing to stand up to the white girl that's destroying everyone else in their league, nobody wants to say anything bad about her.

The complete unwillingness to call a spa...uh...to point out Angel Reese's obvious defects as a player is just bizarre to me.

You're probably right. But I disagree she CAN'T be a post player. I watch almost no WNBA so I'm certainly open to being wrong, but I think she has enough physically to compete down there. She can obviously board, I don't see clips of her getting worked on defense (doesn't mean it's not happening). Plus her ability to run the floor can put a lot of pressure on other Centers.

Her problem (and this part I'm sure of) is she has a fundamental lack of understanding of how to obtain and maintain leverage, no clue what angles she should be using, and a complete lack of any move other than try to go around you because my feet have decent quickness. I mean, I'm a ****ing nobody nothing assbag, but I'm pretty sure I could spend a week with her (if she'd do the work) and 10X her arsenal of post moves.

That's absolutely criminal. She has tools out the ass and literally does nothing with the ball other than to try to go off to the side of the defender. She can't even be bothered to achieve balance over a base.

Again, Crime against basketball.

I don't think she has enough talent to do any of what you suggest.

I go back to that clip I posted of a free break away lay up. She overruns the basket, has to stop flat footed, arches backward to get the ball off the glass, somehow makes the shot, then loses her balance landing and falls to the floor. All of this being uncontested. Like... That's the level of skill you expect to see in a 8-10 year old league. Not from a player cracking the starting lineup at LSU
