This is why horses should never be allowed on a golf course.

If you have played enough golf courses, there are usually a few times we have all had a golf cart moment. I have had two - one while I was driving and the other when someone else was. Neither time was it a drunk event.

1. Me and my buddy were playing a country club in NJ and after teeing off we entered the fairway to begin looking for a ball in the rough. The grass was very thick and couldn't find it. I was driving and I was looking left while my buddy was looking right. As I slowly come up a small crest there was a hidden bunker in front of us. My buddy saw it at the last moment as I was headed straight into it with a steep drop and he jumped out of the cart and into the bunker while screaming "lookout". At the last minute I swerved left and the cart's back wheel was no longer touching the ground and the cart slide hard left. Got very lucky cart didn't tip over or injury.

2. I was playing a course in Virginia that had some incredibly steep elevation changes. The course even made all golfers sign a waiver. Around midway through the back nine it began to drizzle. With the humid temps, the asphalt was slick and there was even some moss on the path. As we came down a steep hill, the driver was going a little too fast. As we began picking up speed, he panicked and stepped on the breaks sending the cart sliding forward. We would up hitting some wooden railing and snapped one of the boards. Got real lucky didn't get jabbed or cut as board scrapped side of cart pretty good.

Some courses are really dangerous with carts, alcohol and steep turns.

So apparently the sheriff's office is now saying they weren't notified for two days after the guy died. Is that normal, or was there a plan to wait until elway sobered up so he could skate by?

I'm wondering about the parallels between this situation and the Henry Ruggs situation. In both cases, they were driving during a crash/incident that killed a person.

Ruggs was obviously driving recklessly and dangerously, and the crash was clearly his fault. He didn't intend to kill anyone, but he also exhibited a complete disregard for the people around him when he killed his victims.

We don't know the details yet about elway. It's possible that he was driving safely and the guy fell off the cart on a routine bump. We suspect that it's also likely that elway and the guy were both drunk, based on past history. This could mean that elway was driving safely and the other drunk guy just fell, or it could mean that elway was driving unsafely, which caused the guy to fall out. It's probably logical to conclude that elway didn't intend for the guy to die.

My question is about a hypothetical situation, which is not yet proven. Here goes.

If elway was drunk, and if he drove the cart in such a way that he caused the other guy to fall out, is it the same situation as Ruggs from a law enforcement/judging perspective? In both cases, a guy driving recklessly caused the death of an innocent person, right?

Not saying that's what happened based on what we know so far, but I'm curious. Ruggs was clearly driving like a moron, but he wasn't drunk and the outcomes were the same. Any risk that elway could end up serving time?

So I read today that Elway was NOT drunk, which I don't know if that's true or just spin but would certainly change the outlook

I wonder what the source is for that. Can the police test for alcohol two days later? It looks like maybe there's a urine test that can detect it. I wonder if they did that.

Otherwise, you're going to have witnesses galore if he was coming home from a public event. I don't know if that's enforcible or not. I suspect this will be a very half-hearted investigation, though, since he used to be a celebrity of sorts.

I will note that none of this would have happened if he had played for the Colts like he was supposed to.
