*****Official 2025 Royals Season Repository Thread*****

Coming off an American League Divisional Series appearance, its year 3 of Matt Quatraro tenure. Can they take the next step to a division title? Can Bobby Witt, Jr. take his superstar status to another level? Can Cole Ragans develop more? Will the other starting pitching duplicate last season? The offense can it deliver more? Who will be in the outfield? How about the new stadium development?

Mikael Garcia was 14 for 24 on the road trip. Um, that will play.

My hope for Maikel Garcia was to be an enhanced version of Joe Randa. Great defense, more speed, some pop and 170+ hits per year.

That has really been a Salvy thing his entire career, tbh.

Maikel looks like he may be reaching his full potential. The organization has obviously really liked him for awhile and I think it was George Brett that was really high on him the last couple of years.

True....but it seems more pronounced at this period of his career.

He has been great for KC so I hate saying negative things about him. I just hope he doesn't hang around a year or 2 longer than he should.

Salvy's gotten hot over his last 7 games. He's got a .407 BA, but since he doesn't walk he also has a .407 OBP lol. He's OPSing 1.000 over that time.

It probably seems that way or sticks out more because the offense (yesterday non withstanding) has been so a drag. But he’s been that way forever. Hard to argue with the overall results but it can be frustrating to watch sometimes.

Perez is a hacker. It’s just his DNA. I do think he has gotten a little better at being selective over the past few years, but he still defaults to being swing happy.

It’s worse when he is worn down.

One of the best improvements in going from Yost and Matheny to Quartaro has been their prioritization of resting Salvy and not running him into the ground by August with inadequate rest.

Matheny especially was bad about that.

White Sox coming to town. Good time to win some more games, IMO.

I’ve always heard him described as a good bad all hitter. Not sure if that’s exactly true, but he’s so huge, his swing can reach nearly every bad ball.

Do you know who else they say that about? Jac Caglione.

It will be interesting to see whether the team tries to drive that tendency out of Jac or let him be him and watch how many "balls" get smashed into extra bases.

They should drive it out of him.

The ONLY thing stopping Perez from being one of the best hitters of all time is his inability to lay off pitches.

You should filter his slugging when they throw him a strike. It is ridiculous. I have yet to figure out why pitchers ever throw him a strike but they do.

Salvy would be a perennial MVP if he had just average plate discipline. The guy has only had 30 or more walks in a season one time. He's had more home runs than he's had walks in half of his seasons.

I mean, i get that is a flaw in his game. But it's also what makes him so dangerous, where he is extremely aggressive. Would he put up similar power numbers being more selective? Ya just don't know how that plays out.

Exhibit A bad ball hitting:

Salvy is imperfect, but he's ours, we love him, and wouldn't trade him for anyone.
