I haven’t yet formulated an opinion on whether we should try to extend Karlaftis yet. I think he may end up being a cap casualty given the edge rusher market and our cap getting a bit tighter (especially if we extend Trey Smith).

He’s an amazing player on a $3.7m cap hit, but what’s he going to cost if we get a long term deal done? $25-28m/year?

If we don't sign him long term I have a sickening feeling that he'll end up Jared Allen and we'll have to watch him dominate for some other team.

I think he's just getting started and we should lock him up as soon as we can

I don't remember people getting upset about trading Jared Allen. Sure he turned into a hall of fame pass rusher, but at the time I don't recall anyone being upset about it. He was on his 2nd DUI and a 3rd time would have been serious suspensions and we ended up drafting Jamaal Charles and Brandon Albert from the trade.

I'd like to see us sign them both after this season and the option year. Or at least structure any new contract that way. As has been mentioned, both Karlaftis and McDuffie are only 24 and play premium positions.

In two years, Moore will be off the books and our left tackle situation taken care of through Simmons (optimism!). Jawaan will most certainly be gone (if not sooner) and hopefully replaced in-house by a player on a rookie deal. Trey may get a long term deal, but I'm not sure of it. Chris Jones's guaranteed years will be finished.

I'd like to see us sign Karlaftis and McDuffie, and trade Rice (if possible). Keep drafting receivers every years (I think Royals is going to be good). Mahomes at quarterback means never paying top of the market receiver salaries. So invest the money where competence is elsewhere needed for a championship -- edge and corner.

Jared Allen had a restaurant on Southwest Boulevard that had a delicious cheesesteak and fantastic beer-can-chicken. I feel that loss to this day.

Getting Jamaal Charles and Brandon Albert is nice but doesn't change the fact that they should have kept Jared Allen. I know I was upset they let him go. Dude just needed to stop drinking.

I love Charles and Albert but I don't like the whole strategy of arguing the decision based on the draft picks we ended up getting. Also Charles and Albert didn't lead to us winning a damn thing so who is to say what is more valuable.

Seeing Jared hog tying dudes after sacking them on Sportscenter for MINNESOTA was just a punch to the nuts

it was mostly about the 2 DUI's

plus teams were running on him. The Vikings didn't win a damn thing either.

Jared was already a beast in KC. We knew what we were trading, and Allen didn’t get substantially better in Minnesota… he was his usual dominant self over a long period of time.

That’s a bit different than letting Karlaftis walk

I hate to see the Greek go. He's no Allen but He developed into a much better player than I ever thought he would. Problem is he's probably always going to be best suited as your 2nd best DE. I won't be surprised when Veach lets the guy move on.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Realistically im waiting to see how Gilotte develops. He could be a near one for one replacement. But then again if he does it would be nice have two high motor pocket collapsers. A Spags wet dream.

Let's see Karlaftis be an influential figure in the Age of Enlightenment!

I was pissed. Especially since we couldn’t get to the passer after he left. I’m as big of a Hali fan as anyone but it was just him and it sucked balls.

I think winning has clouded judgment... Letting Karlaftis walk would be a colossal mistake. Production out of a LDE like he has given isn't easily replaced.

Hold on. Some of you that think either player is going to go anywhere for a few years are nuts. Both guys will play through their second contracts.
