91-0 Texas HS football blowout leads to bullying charge from a concerned parent
Bullying or no?
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highsc...101510025.html . Aledo's 91-0 victory was so dominant an opposing parent filed a bullying charge — BearcatBoosters.org Each week there are football blowouts across the nation. Rarely are they more one-sided than the 91-0 rout Aledo High (Aledo, Tex.) put on Western Hills High (Fort Worth, Tex.). Now, one parent has apparently been so concerned by the final scoreline that they took the extraordinary step of filing an official bullying report with the school district because of the thrashing. As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and other Dallas-area outlets, the official bullying report was filed by a Western Hills parent on Saturday, hours after the final whistle ended the most one-sided game so far this year in the Lone Star state. Texas regulations require Aledo's principal to launch a full investigation into the bullying allegation. The administration is then to produce a written report addressing the bullying complaint. If it was surprising that Aledo racked up 91 points on Friday, it was no shock that their win was a dominant one. The Bearcats are among the state's most powerful squads year-in, year-out. Friday's victory improved the team's record to 7-0, with Aledo now averaging a whopping 69 points per game. They've outscored their district foes by an incredible 77 points-per-game. In the immediate aftermath of the most recent rout, both coaches agreed that there was no intention of the near 100-point gap in the scoreline. The two coaches spoke to the Star-Telegram about the blowout, and in a unique twist both expressed a sincere sense of regret about the way the game played out. In particular, Aledo coach Tim Buchanan spoke to multiple outlets asserting that his team's frequent blowouts have become a source of embarrassment for the program. "I think the game was handled fine," [Western Hills coach John] Naylor said. "They're No. 1 for a reason, and I know coach Buchanan. We're fighting a real uphill battle right now. "We just ran into a buzzsaw, you know," Naylor said. "[Aledo] just plays hard. And they’re good sports, and they don’t talk at all. They get after it, and that’s the way football is supposed to be played in Texas." "I'm upset about [the bullying report]," controversial Aledo coach Tim Buchanan told the Star-Telegram. "I don't like it. I sit there the whole third and fourth quarter and try to think how I can keep us from scoring. "I looked around [after Friday's victory] and asked, 'Is there anyone here that feels good?'" |

The story I read said this was done after 21 minutes of play.

Yes. And asked for a running clock. Those non-starters deserve to be able to play too.

My 13 yr old nephew plays in a youth football league and last year his team DOMINATED every team! They won the championship easily. On the other hand he goes to a very small school and his basketball team usually is beat up on against bigger schools. The constant I notice is the kids are competing, learning, and having fun! Either outcome does not effect the kids long term in my opinion. Once in awhile adults could learn from kids. |

The one thing I thought was pretty rough about Texas football was that there was no running clock in blowouts. Went to a few games when I lived down there that turned ugly, and that second half just drags on and on.
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm coaching a terrible team this year (and doing a terrible job, at that), but we're also playing some pretty damn good teams. If it wasn't for that running clock, we would have had half our players quit, because frankly even with it, we've been brutally embarrassed several times. We are playing tomorrow night, and I'd bet any amount of money that we will lose by 40+ (If I were the Pete Rose of HS football). Other than that, I agree that this parent has done more harm than good. I understand his feelings behind the action, but he didn't give much forethought to how this would paint his kid/kid's teammates by making this move. Even the losing coach knew it just was gonna happen. |

They have a 10 run rule in baseball. They should have something similar in football. These boys develop at different ages. The good team is probably 25 lbs heavier on average.
I remember my son playing at 120 lbs vs. kids 300. It's stupid.

This is not bullying.
In fact, it takes away meaning from kids who are REALLY getting bullied. The coach tried his best to soften the blow. The game should have been called.
