Week 14 Rooting Guide

Back again for another week, here's your rooting guide based on cdcox's NFL Forecast software.

As with last week, the Chiefs game itself is paramount. The AFC is so tight that there are very few games that make a huge swing one way or another. And on top of that, there are a lot of games where the numbers suggest we should root for teams that nauseate me. So...take it with a grain of salt, and just root for the Chiefs.

(Games not listed have essentially zero impact.)

Doesn't matter to me. Quite a few people wanted me to do it for this week, and we're still not technically out of it. If there are more "big swing" games, I might still do it. But if it's another week of "nothing matters except the Chiefs game" then I probably won't bother.

Ironically, if we win out, we are like 99.3% sure of making the playoffs. We almost control our own destiny. But for the Chiefs, that's not a good thing.

Crazy. Have you reverse-engineered it enough to figure out what scenario there is where we'd win out but still not make it?

I think the only way we would not make it if we go 10-6 is if SD and Baltimore BOTH went 11-5 AND Cincinnati finishes with a better record.

So to make the playoffs we need to (win the rest of our games) AND

(Baltimore loses one game OR SD loses one game in addition to the one they lose to us OR Cincinnati loses 2 games)

There are also 9-7 scenarios but I don't think any of those will happen.

This was my question as well...I think Broncos just because we don't stand a chance of catching/overcoming them

It doesn't really matter because two wins get them in the playoffs anyway, while one win almost certainly doesn't.

But a SD loss here gives them a slightly better chance to get in with 9 wins, so you have to go Denver here.

Wut?

Win or lose Denver is in the playoffs

San Diego needs to win out to guarantee a playoff spot (which the Chiefs are fighting for.) We need SD/Pitt/Balt to lose as many games as possible

Broncos win - 33%
Chargers win - 31%

(Sorry, I've been out of town this weekend.)

For the record, I'm not planning to do this for the final two weeks. If we win both games, we're in. If we lose either of them, it's HIGHLY unlikely we make it in (<5%). Not much else to it than that.
