Wilkerson To Visit Chiefs

https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2018/...iefs-scheduled

The Kansas City Chiefs apparently have some interest in free agent DT Muhammad Wilkerson. According to Calvin Watkins of Newsday, the Chiefs are on Wilkerson’s free agent visit.

Wilkerson, one of the top defensive linemen available, visited the Packers this week then it’s the Saints and then the Chiefs ... if he makes it to Kansas City and another team doesn’t sign him first.

The Jets cut him last week two years into a five-year, $86 million contract so something was going on there. Wilkerson was reported to have shown up late to meetings with the Jets so he’ll have to show free agent teams how dedicated he is. Or he’ll just have to be so good teams put up with showing up late.

The connection to the Chiefs is Bob Sutton, who was in New York for a couple years with Wilkerson.

What is our prediction for a NT?

Bring back Poe on a 1-year deal? Xavier Williams?

Would love Suh in KC, but he will be cost prohibitive.

Poe likely comes back at a reasonable rate.

Meh.

I think we have 3 mil or so left in the cap after the Watkins and Hitchens signings. Of course, t depends how the contracts are structured.

Can still cut Bailey, Harris and Sorensen to get it up to 12 mil or so.

We have more than that in terms of 2017 cap space.

There’s no doubt that Veach made their cap hits this year lower than the other years. I bet Hitchens counts for $3-4M this year.

I’d be surprised if Hitchens doesn’t have a small cap figure, considering its a 5 year deal, but Watkins has to count at least $13 million this year if not more.

I can’t image a $20 million dollar cap hit in 2019 but I guess you never know...

True.

The structure of Sammy’s deal is going to be telling. If the 2020 cap hit gets crazy, there’s no way they will keep him for that number. Would either have to extend or release him at that point as it would be Tyreek’s turn to get paid.

I hope it was just where he wanted to play, and not money, because Bailey is getting 8m this year, with 2m dead cap, so the Chiefs would essentially have been paying $2m for maybe a monster or worst case a guy with Baileys production.

Gotta get a cheap vet like Diall now at NT and draft.
