The Yahoo Playoff Predictor is Back

Buck found this last year and I enjoyed tinkering with it. Yahoo's got their NFL Playoff Generator. You can only pick weeks 14-17, so it's still useless. But you can have fun there anyways.

Based on a scenario which starts with winning %, I ran the predictions of the last 4 weeks of the season and came up with:

Ravens (6th seed) at Colts (3rd seed)
Patriots (5th seed) at Chiefs (4th seed)

Steelers (1st seed) and Jets (2nd seed) with byes.

Buccaneers (6th seed) at Packers (3rd seed)
Saints (5th seed) at Seahawks (4th seed)

Falcons (1st seed) and Eagles (2nd seed) with byes.

Patriots at Chiefs in the first round? Wow, that would be hyped just a little bit.

If you can use Yahoo, you can use mine. Mine is more powerful, but you could use it just like the Yahoo one and it isn't any harder. If you are seriously stuck let me know and I'll walk you through it.

If you want to do your own scenarios, yes. You can see the standard predictions without downloading anything by clicking the "latest predicitons" link. Those are updated on late Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you want to do your own scenarios, click the link "Launch Pro-Football Forecast". That will download forecaster.jnlp to your computer. Click on that downloaded item and you are good to go. It runs under Java Web Start, which is an environment that does not let me read or write to your hard drive. I know that DaFace uses my software, probably some others too. I'm not the kind of guy that is going to screw with anyone's computer.

You also have to have Java runtime environment. You probably already have it on your machine, but there is a link on my web site if you don't.

Thanks! At least until we head to the last four weeks, that sounds better. Once we get to 4 weeks, you can manually pick every game and all the other scenarios are taken out.

You can manually pick every game now using my software.

But the problem with that approach is that the number of scenarios is huge. Ignoring ties in future games, there are

65,536 scenarios with one week remaining
4,294,967,296 scenarios with two weeks remaining
281,474,976,710,656 scenarios with three weeks remaining
and approximately 18,446,744,073,709,600,000 scenarios with four weeks remaining.

But even if you were to look at only a few number of scenarios that are interesting to you, Yahoo doesn't do the tiebreakers right (at least they didn't last year). If it gets to a tie it can't figure out, it just flips a coin to break the tie.

OK. I don't think we will win all 4 games to finish out the season but I do think we can go 3-1 and the most likely loss is to SD so here is my playoff scenario. I'm not saying we will lose this weekend though.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffs...14&16=05000154

KC will end up hosting SD in the first round of the playoffs. Yeah, I know, SD most likely does not win out and Baltimore probably doesn't lose 2 more games but I'm keeping Bucks hopes up.

Buck, you better become a huge Houston and New Orleans fan the next two weeks.

So KC and SD make it, but the Ravens do not...

Yeah.

Like I said, I am throwing a bone to Buck. I don't' really think SD will get in.

Also, I had to update my link because I had a couple games in there wrong when I was jacking around with scenarios.

Just to make you happy though, this is what I think will really happen.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffs...14&16=05000154

We will be hosting the Jets.
