In general, are NFL players more athletic than NBA players?

Hootie seems to think Kobe Bryant is stronger than all the cornerbacks and safeties in the NFL, and that LeBron James would be the best NFL player of all time if he played the game. You know, because guys like Tracy McGrady and Stephon Marbury would just dominate as a WR in the NFL. Nobody could cover them.

Not even remotely close.

Only rare NFL athletes (Peppers, M. Williams, Calvin Johnson, etc.) are in the same league as most of the NBA.

You gotta be shitting me. NFL combine shows that the majority of corners, linebackers, tight ends, wide receivers, etc are MUCH stronger than their NBA counterparts, faster, and can jump just as high. In addition, they almost always weigh more and they are still freaks of nature. Not even remotely close? Have you ever looked at the NBA combine numbers compared to NFL combine numbers?? In basketball there is alot of acquired skill and length, and obviously athleticism. Which is why the NBA combine isn't really a big deal. NFL combine is a huge deal because guys shoot way up and way down the draft just because they are freak athletes. Kevin Durant, 31 inch vert, can't even bench press 185.

Yeah, but the NBA doesn't have people like Damion McIntosh, Damon Huard, or Gary Anderson. I think you can argue that some NFL players are as athletic or more athletic, but you can't say the NFL is more athletic generally.

Definitely. You are correct. The guy in my avatar is an example. Same can be said about those really tall oafs in the NBA that are 7 foot 2 and are slow as molasses. I guess what I'm trying to say is the BEST ATHLETES are in the NFL, not the NBA. Which is undeniable. Even look at the quarterbacks, alot of them can run 4.7 to 4.8 40's, which is pretty fast. I know alot of fat asses sitting at their computers will say they ran that in high school, but we all know they didn't. At least Damon McIntosh has going for him is he is probably very strong, and rather agile and quick for his size.

A 4.8 really isn't that fast.

I'm 22, and in high school I ran a 4.8. That isn't quick at all.

WTF are you even talking about?

Amare Stoudemire, LeBron James, Dwight Howard ... these guys completely blow away everyone in the NFL.

You need to get a clue here.

Nice selective example. I'm sure Durant can't hold Damon Huard's jock as athleticim goes.

Kirk Hinrich was one of the best athletes in the 2003 NBA draft according to combine numbers. I guess he should be able to play in the NFL huh?

But...but we're on a football message board...c'mon..this is gonna be biased.

Hootie is basically citing three guys as proof the NBA has better athletes.

LeBron...who is a physical freak and could be a dominant TE..

Kobe and TMac..who would supposedly be great WR's in the league..

No way. Basketball takes MUCH more endurance. Basketball players are typically freakishly athletic. Plus they play nonstop games every night.

I don't consider endurance raw athletic talent. That can easily be acquired by just working hard and building up your cardiovascular system. NFL players are explosive, faster, stronger, and can jump just as high as NBA guys while weighing MORE.

Roster size dictates an inherent advantage to the NBA players. Because their pool is hundreds and hundreds of players smaller.
