I am a fan of this team because I grew up loving them...I spent my youth riding a bicycle 15 miles to watch the Chief's practice at William Jewell. I remember watching them in awe as only a kid can....acting as an "unofficial ball boy" when the kid who was supposed to do it didn't show up. I've seen a Super Bowl loss, and I have seen a Super Bowl win....I've watched Dawson, Bell, Lanier, Lynch, Thomas (Emmitt and Derrick), Smith (Noland and Neil), Okoye, Montana and Allen....I've seen feats and failure....field goals and fumbles.

I've seen this team be pathetic before and right themselves by finding the right mix...no pathetic Coach, sad sack player, or misguided General Manager will make me change my loyalty. I'll be a fan during these bad days knowing that inevitably this will all change.

Montana was just incredible when he was on.

His movement in the pocket, feel for the rush...

His timimg with his recievers...those passes to Anders, and the TE Greene on that final drive...That final pass to Davis (Amazing catch by Davis as well)..a thing of beauty.

Man, i miss those days....

He didnt have real good balance and he was too easy to take down at times. He had speed and shiftiness, but that was about it.

Some of the great things he had were his vision of the field and his inner clock knowing when he had to get rid of the ball. I think the latter is one thing Brody has not gotten. Its ok to throw the ball away when the receivers are covered.

That said Joe was not perfect. His decision to throw to the middle of the field with the clock running down on 3rd down towards the end of the half cost them a chance at a FG. It just goes to show you don't need to look great all the time to be great. I just wonder how much more developed Croyle would be with the line that Montana had.

I actually would have been bitching about Carl trading for Montana as well.

I was pissed when Carl hired Marty to begin with , and pissed again when he traded for Montana.

I still believe it was a stupid ****ing idea.

Yea, i remember you saying you were against the Montana trade. I can understand that. but you know as well as i, it was a "Final piece to the puzzle" move. It nearly worked.

You were always against the Marty hire?? Wow...

He was a "Hot" coaching prospect at the time because of his Cleveland success.

Nobody knew at that time he would be a playoff failure for so many years. He was a great hire for KC, because he knows how to resurrect dying programs. A more demanding GM probably would have fired him after 1995.

I didn't like Marty because of "The Drive".

He showed me right there with his conservative approach to defending in that situation that he played it safe, and I was pisssed at him then.

Though I admit that at the time of his hire I did hold out hope that he had learned form that experience, though only a small hope.

Oh, as to Montana being the "Final piece", why exactly did we need that final piece at that time?

We had just elevated to competitor status, and a younger QB would have been there for the full length of the window we were just opening.

Final piece of the puzzle? I guess the best response to that would be we haven't won a playoff game since he left. He won two of the three playoff games under Marty.

No shit. I am now playing it from my dvr. Montana just threw a TD to Birdin with under 2 minutes in the half. It is wonderful watching an oline that can block adequately. On that play, Anders also did a fantastic job of undercutting their pass rush specialist, Simon Fletcher. Marcus was so solid. And even Greg Hill had some nice runs.

Even the defense seemed to be well coached. It's glaring how different this team was compared to today's team.

Perhaps it was worded badly. He won two of the three playoffs games by Marty during his tenure.

He was the QB for two of the three playoff wins during Marty's tenure as HC.

A better wording might be that he's the only reason Marty won more than one playoff game in KC.
