As a Beavers fan, I am not too worried about this. Wazzu isn't in the middle of nowhere but you can see it from there so they always have a hard time recruiting, especially with UW, Oregon, Idaho and OS all going for the same guys (though we have the same problem).

Also, I would love to see how Leach's offense works with the gale force wind that constantly blows in the Palouse, especially when the snow starts.

I've been listening to the radio stuff and everyone treats Zenger like he's the AD lovechild that Don Draper and Machiavelli's Prince would have created. I've not seen this much blind faith since Pioli's first couple of weeks. Why? What about his time at Illinois State has convinced everyone that this guy is a mastermind?

I mean he seems qualified enough, but Perkins had a much better resume/reputation coming into Lawrence and that didn't work out so well. Why is it just assumed that this didn't happen because Zenger didn't want it to?

I think the status of the XII may have actually come into play here.
All reports by who? Speculators? sure, I'll certainly agree with that. Zenger said he was going to play this one close to vest, and has done so. The LJW and many KU fans have proclaimed massive love for Leach, but we don't know if Leach even really wanted to come to KU at all. Again, it's all speculation.. and a pathetic writer like Keegan doing everything in his power to write articles trying to sway Zenger into getting Leach doesn't mean he's our #1 target. I certainly don't know. My own personal favorites for the job are just that, I have no idea if Zenger is actually screening any of them. We'll find out eventually the details, I'd imagine.

Zenger seems like a smart guy, but he's not really done anything yet. I think people are HOPING he's the lovechild you speak of. I certainly do.. this hire he's about to make might be the single most important thing he does in his entire KU career. Forgive me if I'm withholding judgement on both Leach or Zenger until later in the process.

Interesting point...

My recollection is that his spread was more of a WC style, though. It's not like those limited QBs he had were getting their 400 YPC by slinging it 30 yards downfield.

They just quick-hit you to death, but about 10 yds downfield instead of the idiocy that Yost does behind the line. The wind could impact that, but I wouldn't think it would hurt it too badly.

Not surprised that he didn't choose us.

WSU's AD was pretty clear in saying he wanted Leach.

He went and got him.

Oh whatever; dude spurned you fellas for Wazzu. Seems kinda stupid to me, but it most assuredly doesn't say much for your program.
According to who?

Cause Tom Keegan wanted him?

Maybe Zenger looked at the situation and said no.

I don't pretend to know. But go ahead and take your shots. No ones looking to trade places with your team. Believe me.

Phew. The one coach I feared (and adored) is off the board.

Exactly.

Any intelligent person can see through this.

Hiring a coach is a big deal. It amazes me that people on this board are always trying to sound like they know anything. It's so mediocre.

Oh believe me, as soon as Tech fired him, I wanted Bill to step down right then & there so we could grab him. I think our fanbase wouldn't be too thrilled with it, though what with the "baggage" & all...

Snyder is winning through the smartest football I think I've ever seen. Simple, effective, boring shit that just refuses to backfire. They never hurt themselves at all.

Leach, OTOH, is a mad gunslinger that sees turnovers as a fact of life. He and Snyder would have been at each other's throats. Further, I wonder if that KSU defense has enough talent to make up for the amount of time they'd be on the field and the short fields they'd have to deal with w/ fair frequency.

They just don't seem to work together.
This is true. But I honestly think Leach is perfectly fine with a bad defense that gets the offense right back on the field. Think he'd rather take his chances by scoring 50+ per game with a bad defense than score 30-40 with an average defense.

I know that doesn't really make a lot of sense, but it kinda fits Leach's style IMO.

Whatever you say, tex.

I know I'd rather lose 10 straight and finish 0fer the conference than wind up BCS ranked and bowl eligible in a down season.

There were a bunch of outlets reporting that Zenger was high on Leach, including that Shay guy that everyone seems to believe is connected and legit.

But hey, now that it fell apart, the guy must've been full of crap, right?

No shots to take here; I disagree with Leach's conclusion that WSU is better than KU. It has some advantages, but there are some serious disadvantages as well. (But seriously, hire Sonny Dykes; the guy is going to be a badass somewhere, IMO)

How is Leach with discipline? Wazzu has always been an undisciplined team, probably due to the nature of the school. Even this year, they would have won more games but constantly shot themselves in the foot. With the difficulty of getting talent, the lack of discipline is very harmful.

Well he'll lock your ass in a closet if you don't pay attention, even if your daddy is on TV.

So there's that...

(Addendum: Now that I think about it, Baylor's offense this season reminds me a lot of TTUs under Leach. Baylor runs a ton of quick hitters but they're all caught about 8 yards downfield and with some space for the WRs. That will work in most any weather condition, IMO. The rain in the northeast would hurt more than the wind due to the slippery ball).
