Well we will probably find out what happens to Ford sometime next week right? Figure Veach will want that almost $16 million to use in the first week of FA.

Veach made his moves at the very start of FA last year, one season is hardly a pattern but I would expect the same.

Consistently average is NOT what coaches are looking for.
No, they are looking for consistently excellent. But, I believe they will choose consistently average over occasionally brilliant and occasionally terrible.

Oh wow.

I was expecting Ford to size up better than that.

There are two franchise tags.

If the Chiefs slap him with the exclusive rights franchise tag, he can't talk to other teams. He can only negotiate with the Chiefs and they can shop him to any team they want for any compensation they want.

If they don't. he can talk to other teams and negotiate a deal. The Chiefs get a right to match the deal but if they don't, they get 2 first rounders.

If the Chiefs really want to keep him like they said, they'll put the ERFT on him.

It's going to be a really interesting free agency period.

There are two approaches, really-
1)You sign the aging vets that might still have a little left in the tank for reasonable contracts while you draft and develop their replacements
2)You go large on a young elite player or two and fill the rest of the spots with your draft.

There are pros and cons to both.

Apparently flowers is expected to get 17 mil per plus on his deal. That’s a little rich but I’d be interested

I lm a Ford dan and think he’s a late bloomer that will improve his run defense as his core strength builds and Daly teaches him better technique. I also think what he gave us in terms of forced fumbles is something that is VERY VERY underrated. Most of those aren’t just forced fumbles, they are strip sacks that flip the field and turn into touchdowns.

That said, I also see him still being a little clueless in the run game and can be easily washed out of a play.

I think if we can get a guy like Flowers for a reasonable deal (12-14m per) you should definetely explore that before giving Ford a deal averaging 16-17.

Sure, but this isn't about Jones vs Ford. Yes, in today's NFL interior pass rush is where it's at. Besides, Jones had zero sacks against Brady too.

Pass rush still matters. Not every team is the Patriots. You'll remember that again when the Chiefs cant rush the passer and the QB has all day to pick apart our high priced secondary.[/QUOTE]

Collins and Thomas are going to get 16m a year?

3 million MORE than the highest paid safety?

I'm calling bs

Matt Miller told 610 that from what he’s heard, he thinks it’s more likely Dee Ford is traded than playing on the tag.
