What makes you a Matt Cassel fan next season?

What does he have to do to convince you he is worth the starting spot? I won't say worth the $ cause I don't think that will ever happen but, that being said....

QBs need confidence. If you have no confidence in your protection, you will freak out like he did ALL YEAR.

Its kind of like having Dwight Freeney and Jared Allen lining up against you for 16 games. That fear is there, but its caused by your own team.

I am not a stat person at all, though. I believe intangibles account for most of the success of a team. Intangibles create stats, IMO.

But if ANYONE else can figure this team out I'd love to hear it. Usually when a team sucks you can kind of see where the issue is and work with it. But now its all just a blur. We can't pass and we can't stop the run. I'm fairly sure a NT in our 3-4 would stop the run and make the defense a lot better, but on offense, its a total clusterfuck to me.

A QB must be mentally tough when it comes to that, like Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger with their situations.

I'd like to think he can improve and was set back this year because: his OC and HC were never on the same page, a new offensive system a week before the season, an ever changing WR corps., an early/mid season OL that let him get hit too many times giving him happy feet, league leading WR drops, no running game the first half of the season, the top WR getting a 4 game suspension, poor playcalling on 1st and 2nd down setting up 3rd and long.
Thats pretty bad considering they were the same person.

I become a fan of Matt Cassel when he starts earning his pay-check.

He didn't do that last season.

He was sacked six times in the final four games.

Why didn't he improve?

Jamaal Charles rushed for over 1,000 yards once LJ was cut, which opened up the passing lanes and proved that the offensive line could at least run block well.

Why didn't Cassel improve?

Its a little easier to stay "mentally tough" when your throwing the ball to players like Greg Jennings, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Donald Driver.

Its another thing to be throwing to different receivers NEARLY EVERY week like Cassel did from training camp on...

Along with his O Line troubles...

Mmm....what make Sweet Dick a Cassel fan?

A 747 Jumbo loaded with every existing NFL and college prospect of the Quarterback position going down in a flaming, Lynard Skynard-like plane crash, so that Casel is the only Quarterback left...

In the world.

Didn't receivers drop 7 some odd passes in at least 2 of those 4 games? Don't you think that dropped passes kill drives and stop a QB from getting into a rhthym?

No; a QB is either elite or not. A great offensive line simply gives more time/opportunity for the QB to display his talent, but the offensive line does not "make a QB go from great to elite." Look at Elway, an elite QB who didn't always have the best protection.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

He had a great line the years he won the Super Bowl. Once again, you have to have BOTH. Elway was elite without an O-line. But he wasn't a Super-Bowl winner. I don't care if he's elite or not as long as we win lots of championships.

I don't care if we have the worst QB in the league as long as we win a super bowl.

That is the point. Winning the super bowl.

We've sucked so long that HOW we do that isn't exactly a luxury we can argue over...
